For my Barnack 🙂

I don't know if these are coated in the production or later by a professional service, out of leica.

And if You can let me know which hood is better? not too big please!

I have an Elmar 50/2.8 but sometimes is slow.

The lenses were not coated during the original production run of the Summar, but after the Second World War Leica offered this as a service and some people had theirs coated.
Finding one with coating takes a bit of luck.

Don't know if your committed to the Summar, but if you can find a Canon Serenar 50/1.9 it should give you similar rendering and was coated from the factory. It also has considerably harder glass than the Summar, at least judging by the condition of the glass in the ones I've seen. I use mine with a 40-40.5 step-up ring and a generic 40.5 wide lens hood, which is quite compact.

thanks guys! I'm in EU.

Mmmm.. I've seen the Erik pictures with the Summar (coated I think) and I'm really in love! is really sharp and magical for portraiture.

O2pilot, but I'm in love with Leica character...

Well I just buy this:

I think is a good deal, don't You? good companion for my IIIG.

Luddite Frank is right. This is one lens you must never ever buy without having a really good look at it in the flesh (so to speak).

Having said all that Red Dot are fine. Their stuff will be what they say it is. Maybe an Easyjet flight and a weekend in London?

Coating changes the Summar from a very low contrast lens with a severe flare problem to a very low contrast lens without a severe flare problem. You might want to look for a good Summitar.

Cheers,
Dez
