Where can I get information about stolen Leica equipment

I've come upon a too-good-to-be-true deal on a noctilux here in Brazil, and I suspect this is stolen equipment. The guy is offering four lenses for ridiculous prices, stating that 'he received them as payment for a job'. One of the lenses is a noctilux 0.95.

Does any of you have any info on equipment recently stolen in Salvador - Brazil, or know where to find this info .. Thanks in advance.

At least in London posting for cheap Noctiluxes are more commonly scams than stolen goods.

I would have thought the police was the best place to go if you suspect they're stolen though, the person who lost them should have reported them stolen, hopefully with serial numbers.

Getting info from the police means endless telephone calls and uncertain results - there is no general database for what is considered petty theft. You'd have to pin down the local police station where the theft was registered.

Isn't there a central registration point managed by Leica - I remember something like this.

people there are suggesting national databases, which doesn't seem helpful in your country.

You can go to Leicas Website (https://owners.leica-camera.com/en/login) and try to register the lens yourself. If it is already registered, the site tells you so. - Doesn't give you 100% assurance, that the lens is not stolen, but at least you know, it is not registered by a previous owner. - And for a Noctilux I guess it is pretty likely, that the lens is registered by its owner.
