where does the run of the lever ends?

ok, I can't write in english, and it's worse when I have to write about technicalities...
but I hope you understand me!
I read somewhere in the forum that, in cameras like the M2 "The chain stretches and you start having to "double stroke" it."


I don't know if my camera has this problem: what is the normal range of the film transport lever of an M2?

This was in relation to the old leicavit MP. The drive was done with a "miniature" bicycle chain and with use it does stretch. It should advance the film and cock the shutter with one stroke of the fold down lever. Once they get "tired" and require more movement, you have to go back to start and advance until it stops. The clutch on the original Leicavit MP was a small, single action clutch and it would only engage at one position. Modern rapidwinders use multiple clutch pins and it will 'start" with less than a 4-5 degree turn. Both my Rapidwinder, the Voigtlander Rapidwinder and Leica "new" MP uses this type of clutch. Hmm, they all copied me actually!

thanks, Tom!🙂 So this problem doesn't affect cameras, right? I have just received an M2 (do you remember? I pm'd a couple of weeks ago about your uncollectibles...) and didn't know if it is strange that the lever does an angle of almost 180°...

Just got my M2 back from curtain repair and CLA. That 180 degree sounds OK to me.

Nothing in an M2's winding to stretch. Just use your camera and be happy with it.

When you strip (remove a) tooth from the gear wheel it does not wind on.

I bought my M2 new around 1960 or so. The wind lever still works correctly. Not to worry!
