where to buy film in Sydney & Perth

As noted above, be prepared to be shocked at the prices. (I also bulk-order from O/S.) You can get (mostly) 400 speed consumer colour 135 film in lots of places (though fewer and fewer). For anything else you need to find a photo retailer then hope. In central Sydney: Foto Riesel on Kent Street, Paxtons by Wynyard railway station (the George Street side) and Teds on Pitt Street (the far side of the block opposite Town Hall) all carry a fair range of film (135 and 120). Outside the city it gets a bit patchy.

There are a few shops in the city that may or may not have stock of the films you are after, such as Foto Riesel and Ted's Cameras but your best bet would be to call/email Vanbar Imaging and go pick up the film when you get here. It's a 15 minute bus ride from Town Hall.

Vanbar Imaging (Camperdown, Sydney)

Use the following website to plan your bus ride;
NSW State Transit Trip Planner;

As for getting your black and white film developed while here, the best option for quality and service is;

Blanco Negro
http://www.blanconegro.com.au/
44-54 Botany Rd,
Alexandria, NSW, 2015
Sydney, Australia
Ph/Fx: +61-2-9698 4552

...and for E6/C41 the best option would be;

Vision Imagelab
www.visionimagelab.com.au
10 Danks Street Waterloo NSW 2017
Sydney, Australia
tel: (02) 9319 3300

For processing convenience check with Foto Riesel as I think they offer a drop off service for both of these labs.

Just looking at some Kodak Slide film, these reputable stores are asking somewhere between $18 and $20 AUD for a roll of 36 exp slide film!!!

Vote with your money and buy bulk from overseas!

I'd jump in the bandwagon and suggest that you order online as well.

Just got myself 20 rolls of XP2 from freestyle not too long ago. Seems like a steal even with the shipping when compared to the price i'd otherwise pay here in OZ (i'm all for stimulating our own economy but NOT when i can get the item for half the price)

Otherwise, try this ebay seller called 'film festival' based in thailand. More expensive than US but still cheaper than OZ even after the shipping cost - cheaper shipping since its from Asia.
HAve a look at 'cheap shots au' on ebay as well. Local seller and prices seems cheaper from what the shops

If you ready to buy bulk, B & H photo or Freestyle etc is the way to go methinks.

If you are only looking for a few rolls, i'd consider 'film festival'

+1 vote for "cheap shots au". Stephen is a good & honest reseller of film and I have bought from him many times. A very good option if you only want a small amount (5-20 rolls) without having to resort to a large o/s order.

Simon I go through alot of film, as i shoot weddings with 135. I was recently put onto this website in the UK and my first shipment arrived only a couple of minutes ago. The order was placed last week, and I saved over 50% of what I would have paid here in OZ. Worth a look.
