A friend of mine is doing an internship in NYC for 5 months and she's looking to rent an apartment (preferrably in the Upper East Side) for this time. What websites other than Craigslist are good for finding rental apartments with furniture?

Thanks for your help!

Thanks guys, all really good suggestions! Fortunately she can afford quite a lot of rent as our currency is REALLY strong vs. the dollar right now. What's the nicest area to live in the Upper East Side if we assume money is not an object?

Nicest place to live is totally avoid the upper east side. 😀

Why? I lived in NY for 8 years and only once lived close (walking distance) to work. There is an extensive bus and subway network that is among the best in the world. I would seriously consider another neighborhood. A lot of nicer neighborhoods, especially if "money is not an object".

I think she'd like to avoid long travel distances to work if possible. She's not a huge fan of the subway. (By the way, she's been to NY many times before).
But what would be your favourite neighborhood in NY?

I work at a hospital on the Upper East Side, and I get all these e-mail blasts all the time. What five months are we talking about?

Many of the apartments and sublets are on nearby Roosevelt Island a Tram ride away or one subway stop away from Madhattan.

Also NYC is likely one of the most walkable cities in the U.S. Consider not nearby. For example I live in Long Island City, but I'm one stop from Madhattan, and generally I take the subway only one stop and walk uptown to work. Of course always with a camera.

I live on the Upper East Side and there is nothing wrong with it... despite what others here say. It is just boring and clean compared to many other sections.

I currently live in Long Island City/ Hunters Point but where I live its a bit uninhabited. No starbucks where I live, the grocery is nothing more than a glorified bodega, and after six PM more number seven trains go by than cars. Too few people to call it much of a neighborhood but its been an up and coming art neighborhood for decades that never made it. Perhaps in another decade or so.

Even though I'm an old guy (53) my girlfriend and I will likely move back to Williamsburg and rent another loft. To me it is mostly filled with hipsters, but it also is kinda almost like living in Madhattan because it has the art scene, trendy boutiques and a certain energy of downtown Manhattan. Been actively looking to rent in Hell's Kitchen (westside below the Port Authority near Penn Station), and even the Flat Iron district, but Williamsburg allows living in a small loft verses living in a one bedroom in Manhattan.

Eventhough I work in the Upper East Side, I'd never ever live there.

John is my friend, but when we go shooting he comes to my neighborhood to shoot and never do we meet-up to go shooting in his "hood". Also we like shooting in Williamsburg. Good for street shooting ( interesting/different).

Where I live now in LIC its great for urban landscape. The moody sense of urban decay, neglect and abandonment is kinda projected in a profound way. Kind of the opposite of the Upper East Side. Call me a pig but I like the filth and the state of decay.

I have lots of great shots of fur coats and lap dogs, and I bet John does too.
This neighborhood is interesting and different in an interesting and different way. Btw, I've seen you out here with M6 and 'icepick' ready to pounce.

Well, that is because I already photograph there all of the time... so when I meet up with people, I like to go somewhere else. Yeah, the UES is not hip but it isn't the horrible place most make it out to be. I've learned to even like certain aspects of it. Plus, within minutes I can be in a different neighborhood.

Well, I haven't seen the fur coats lately, but there does seem to be a pocket dog of the month club in the UES. Though the fake boob with dog in the purse ladies seem to hang down by wall st more...they can be funny to photograph too.

In that case, hire a licensed agent to do the leg work for you. For a price you can find a condo to sublet on 5th Ave facing Central Park between, oh, 65th and 75th Sts. You could also look for a place on Park Ave in the same range of streets facing west.

I have some good shots taken of the Upper East Side. One is a great street shot of this woman in a tight leopard print dress that showed off her sculpted butt in an amazing way that was walking her lap dog. The bokeh of the brownstones is amazing as her butt. Then there was this Cougar woman who mistook me for a thirty year old on 57th Street.

But the day that Yankee pitcher crashed his private plane into a high rise on 73rd Street I had no camera. AHHH the pain of missing an AP shot. That day I was forced to evacuate work due to my lab's close proximity.

I should also add that 'clean and boring' is right up her alley as far as the location of the apartment is concerned. Doorman is also preferred. And while she doesn't have a lapdog, fake boobs or a fur coat, this would probably be more her scene than Williamsburg hipsters at least as far as living is concerned.
