It wouldn't be a fair vote from me since I've only had the CV 40/1.4, however being that it's so small and compact with a pretty short focus throw, I see reason to try any other 40mm (or 35mm for that matter). Being a 1.4 doesn't hurt either.

I have two of the Rokkor 40s. One is the older style (not multi-coated) that resides on my CLE, and the other has been modified to bring up the 35mm frame lines on my M7. My M7 lens is the newer style with multi-coating. I am very comfortable with the field of view. The lens is a very compact package. The image quality is first rate (see Raid's excellent 35-40mm tests). And frankly, with the M7 the frame lines are much more precise with the 40 than they would be with a 35mm. I think I would be very disappointed to see all the "extra" stuff that would be on the negative when using a 35mm. Oh, didi I mention the price? Only $300 USD for this little jewel. It is a great lens.

I had the CLE Rokkor and found it excellent. If I were to look again I would not consider the others, which also are good, but I liked the Rokkor that much.

Justin, I was about to ask you about that Sonnar (you listed it in a separate thread). Show us some pics!

Agreed about the 'cron-C. It's a great lens too! I found the Nokton to be rather ordinary (which may not be a bad thing).

I had a Rokkor for the CLE once, and it was pretty good too. That was a long time ago though.

The only lens on the list that I've used is the 40mm Nokton. I think it's an excellent lens and I absolutely love it to bits. My Nokton and I live happily together and I feel separation anxiety when we're more than a few meters apart.

I found these. Does anyone know anything about them? I'd like to play around with them but I don't have 650$ to spend on a couple lenses at the moment

I'll go for the Rokkor too. I have the cron-c and it's my favourite lens on M, but I miss the usual filter size of the Minolta. Vibrant colors Memphis !

40mm is not my length ... I had one and never used it so sold it. I've heard that there is a very hard to get and very highly regarded Zuiko available for the OM's which could interest me but apparently they go for a lot of money these days!

40mm is very cool, a favorite. I'm pretty sure the 40 Summicron is optically the same as the Rokkor, which I do have. Great lens, very smooth and sharp, just all-round nice. I rather like the 40 Nokton too but I virtually never run it wide open so can't complain about the bokeh too much. Probably the best I have is the 43mm Pentax-L, an update on the Rokkor in some ways, but suffers a bit of barrel distortion. I like the 1.9/43mm in Pentax KA mount too, and a 2/40mm Ultron-SL. I have no experience with the 40 Sonnar, which is probably a winner as well. But then I like the 40's...

Had a couple of beautiful Summicron-C's, but sold them and kept the Nokton for the extra stop. Personally I like the handling of the Nokton over the Summicron-C as well.

Someday I'd like to play with the Pentax 43mm/1.9 Limited (close enough to a 40?) and I wish the Zuiko 40/2 pancake was not so rare or spendy - anyone have one they want to trade for a mint Zuiko 35/2 and $$? (Yeah, and monkeys are gonna fly outta my a$$.)
