I have a summicron 50 black(1969-1979 verson) and a summilux 50 E43 black.
I want to buy a M digital camera.
I want to use the lens both on M6 and M digital.
Which 50mm lens should I keep?
Thanks!

Keep the Summilux. You'll want that extra stop.

keep the summicron if you want the closer focusing
(or sell both and get and E46 lux)

What role does economy play here?
If of little impotance, I'd go with maitani's second suggestion.
Both your lenses have a few "flaws" by design and a modern coded lens would be nice now you have the wallet out anyway.

my summicron is not DR
E46 is great, but I like the E43 on film.

I used a V1 summilux with great results on an M8 and M9 for a while, I only sold it because I wanted the closer focusing, optically, I never had any issues on the digitals.

But it should still focus closely to 0.7m, right? and the E43 'lux 1m?

My best friend uses an E43 Summilux on his M240 and it is great even wide open.

Why don't you just get the Digital M and decide after a while?

I would keep the cron.
I'd rather have a cron/planar over a summilux/sonnar.

Shaken, so blurred
If it were me, I'd keep Summilux. I especially like the way that particular lens renders things. Some time (in the all too distant future) I'd like one for myself. But what I'd really do is keep both. You can never have too many different 50s.

When do you use each lens right now?
I just went on a trip with the Planar and Biogon. In the past I would have taken either 1.4 Canon 50 or a 1.4 Voightlander 35. I found myself missing that extra stop at times and would have loved it in one of the two walk around lenses. In hindsight, I shoot mostly around f4-5.6 so I drop down to 1.4 more than I realized.

I had the 11817 ('69-'79) Cron at the same time as the e43 Lux. I found them to be remarkably similar except for the 1.4 and the 30cm difference in close focus.
At some point I sold the cron for the later tabbed version 11819, which is optically the same as the current version. There is a noticeable improvement in sharpness and contrast in the outer regions.
There was no optical change made in the e46 Lux, all they did was redo the helicoid. So basically the lens focuses closer than the optical designers had intended. Not sure if that's good or bad.
I use the e43 Lux on an M9 and feel that it performs as well as it did with film, that is to say there are no glitches applying it to digital per-se. However I was lucky in that mine focuses correctly on the M9. There may be some sample variation in that respect, so some may need to be sent to Leica for adjustment. That could be true with your older Cron as well.
Someone said to wait until you have the body and then try both lenses and decide. That seems like a sound idea to me.
