As to direction, I'll predict that the OVF will soon be history (a bunch of lenses in the roadmap - 10-20, 55-200, and 56, for starters, are highly dependent on EVF operation). Users will find, if they haven't already, that it's difficult to mentally separate the EVF focus box from the OVF one in terms of parallax, they'll use the EVF more and more, and the expensive optical finder will die a quiet death.

In general direction, Fuji will move away from Leica.

I still like to use the ovf. But I can c your point. I have both the xp1 and xe1. However, one thing I can think of is how about ...

Given the split image focusing they introduced in the x100s... Here is a what if (most likely not practical but.....), how about designing it to work w/ the ovf and manual focused old rf or slr lenses?

I don't think it's designed to work any more slowly than anything else. This seems like projection of a Leica M on something totally different.

i hope the hybrid viewfinder will survive in the successors of the x-pro1 and x100s, but the optical viewfinder should die in the x20's replacement. i'd prefer an evf on that camera.

as for evf only cameras, i think the x-e1 will be joined by a line of pseudo-slr cameras.

It is pointing to where the af sensor should be pointed. It is thus giving u am indicator of what u may need to do to account for the parallax effect to the predicted af spot u need to use.

But for myself, anything starting from about arms length I switch to evf.

I find that my composition is always better when I use the OVF as I can see beyond the frame even though I end up with a little less precise framing.

Most camera manufacturers seem to be heading back to either OVF or EVF built into their new models now which is a good think but, I'm like you, I'd rather have the optical viewfinder hybrid. I like both viewfinders in my x100s & x-pro 1.

I have both the X100 and Xpro and never use the EVF. I hate them. It's like sitting too close to the TV. Much prefer the OVF and that was my reason for buying them. If Fuji start dropping the OVF in future models I may never buy another camera again (famous last words).

Ditto- fixed-lens 50 compact would be GREAT! Same size as X100s...

I enjoy using the OVF. I am am thrilled to have the OVF available when I need it.

In some situations the EVF is important and that's when I use the EVF.

After shooting with it a while, I understand (as I was told before I got my XP1) that having both the OVF and EVF (and even the LCD) gives a rich combination of creative options. I would truly mourn the loss of it and give me yet another reason to hold dearly to my XP1.

The direction of the X CSCs will become clearer on 18OCT and very clear next January. CES is a traditional "save the date" regarding Fujifilm.
