which first lens?

unless i have an over night change of mind...i am going to reverse myself, go back to my original plan and buy the xp1 tomorrow...with the 35/1.4 lens...it just seems to good to pass on...plus $300. off the lens is nice too.
if the rx1 proves to be too much of a pull i will need to look at my options at that time.

when the new lenses arrive i hope to get the 56 and maybe that 28 pancake...

anyone use the fuji grip?

I have the Fuji grip. While it really works great it has a problem. It blocks the sd/battery door. On the other hand I have a real right stuff grip for the x100. It allows u to access the sd/battery compartment w/o removing grip. I heard they recently released the xp1 version. If I had to do over I would look into the rrs grip instead.

What happened to getting a xe1?

decided to go for the xp1 and have both ovf/evf.
the rx100 will remain my all the time carry camera while the xp1 will replace the rd1 as my 'serious' shooter.

seeing as the rd1s in the classifieds are not selling i just may keep both bodies for when i want to focus manually and use my m mount lenses.
 
I have the grip but have been leaving off it recently in a quest for minimal size/weight (not that the grip is really heavy or bulky either). Waiting now on delivery of a Thumb's Up (EP-7S). I will experiment with removing the front grippy piece on the camera body itself and using the Thumb's Up. Eventually I may convince myself to get the grip from Really Right Stuff if I can save up money for a real tripod.
 
I like to wrap the shoulder strap around my wrist and carry the camera one handed, so a grip is a must.

Did you get an answer as to how to display camera and lens firmware versions? Holding in the Display/back button when turning camera enters firmware update mode. Also displays current versions. To abort turn camera off again.
 
I have the 18 and 35. I *had* an X-Pro1 until it was stolen last week. 🙁

I think the 18/2 is a real sleeper of a lens. It's light, compact, fast, and focuses really fast and accurately. It's absolutely superb for street work. It is very sharp on center from maximum aperture, though as closed down it does not become razor-sharp in the corners. It also has a ton of barrel distortion that's auto-corrected in-camera or by ACR/Lightroom. To me, these are minor weaknesses compared to the lens's strengths. Bottom line is that it's not a lens for critical landscape work, but for anything in street, reportage, or documentary style, it's one of the most capable and superbly-handling fast-wide lenses ever made.

Get the lens with the focal length that you depend on. As great a lens as the 35 is, for me that means that if I had only one, it would be the 18.
 
Did u format the card first before copying file? Make sure the file is copied to root dir of sd card and make sure the file name is exact match. If even one character is not right like an added 1 then it will not be recognized.

Just remembered, u had an x100 before, the image name used for the xp1 body update is exactly the same as the one used for x100. If your auto download is saving to same place as the x100, then it will rename it.

U need to rename it back..
