which first lens?

Had the same problem Joe. It was my cards. I think because I had been using them in the x100 previous. I don't understand exactly. Anyway, I found an old 2g card I had left over from my RD1 days. Formatted in the xp1 and then was able to do the download and FW update to v2.

The 18 focuses a little faster. It's a lot smaller and almost weightless. In those respects it's a better lens than the 35, even if its optical performance is not quite up to the same lofty standard.

Depends what attributes you need, and value.
 
unbelievable...card # 6 worked!!

i deleted every copy of the update from my download folder..used an ancient 1g card and it finally worked!

Better keep that one sd card in a safe place :rolleyes:

There has got to be a bug in the Fuji low level drivers for particular sd cards to work and others don't, yet the camera can recognize it fine to store pictures.

Hurray!

I think deleting everything from your download folder helped. Fuji's firmware delivery system is crude at best.

I move the downloads right away into folders with detailed names ASAP.

No comfort... But your experience is mirrored on Fuji centric forums the day of every major firmware update.

If its a brand new lens, it shouldn't need updating, but you can check by holding down the display/back button and switching on the power. Then check which firmware the lens and body shows. Remember, the body has to be version 2.0 firmware before the lens will update.

Forgive me if you feel this is too obvious, but did you format the SD card in the camera? Fuji is very sensitive to this. If you didn't, I think you can assume all of your cards are just fine once remformatted in camera.

Joe only had a quick scan of this thread, hopefully I've read it right. I had the same problem with the last update on the X100. Told I needed to delete the other downloads off the PC. Sometimes the updates have the same name, FPudate whatever, and the camera doesn't recognise it.

Boy, that is really weird, Joe.

I wonder if they are old, slower cards?

If they are, they are best left out of the x100. It is really readily apparent that the faster cards really have a noticeable edge in the x100 than you would see in say a high end nikon or canon. Don't know why - it might be buffer size or whatever, but with the fuji cameras, it really pays to have the fastest card you can find.

The imbedded SW updater in the camera is behind times in how it works. Reminds me of boot loaders w/ imbedded updater back about early 2000 from my own industry.

The Sony nex and even the sigma DP updater are so much better.

for the record...both body and lenses have been updated.

the cards i used ranged from the oldest and smallest...kingston 1 g card to the latest...sandisk extreme pro 95gb speed.

the 1g card eventually was the winner.
