Just take a FED-1 or a Zorki-1. In their never-ready case, with the lens collapsed, they look like a librarian, wearing rimless glasses, her hair done up in a bun. But once you get her to let her hair hang loose and lose the glasses, she is just amazing and ever-ready. Just unlock the lens and go!

I know that rangefinder cameras require a great deal of fiddling with to make them work; I also know that I am too old, wise, and cautious to say anything about the other sex that might offend. So, where else can this thread go? Just curious.

My vote is definitely for a Kiev RF. Quite fiddly, and requires constant care. And well, the cloth curtained ones are workhorses.

Anyas still around, she got a job with an import/export firm in the UK. She travels quite a bit through out Europe but she can be caught at home ocasionaly . Her website is still up but i dont think theres much activity there. She also puts a few things on ebay every now and then................

this is by far the funniest thread on RFF, just because of the title. I think the Zorki 1 is definatly the prettiest of the FSU gear, but I have never connected cameras and women... but I guess your not talking just about looks but about the whole camera experience.

Yeah, it was intended to be a fun thread, I dont think women would be offended because they could easily post which camera is most like a guy...........any way , i think the Fed 2 is most like a woman, elegant lines , good looks, a little temperamental,and treat it lovingly and you will be rewarded with great shots!

Roger, i think you should not take it too seriously. In fact, everybody here LOVES FSU cameras (and cameras in general), so the question should not be offensive, but opposite. Like a compliment. LOL.

You have to guess the focus distance.

It's not easy to walk around with.

It makes a loud clack sound, and everybody looks in your direction.

The controls are tough to change.

But when you have the right settings, and the right situation It can produce stunning photos.

One thing I do like about this forum is that we can agree (mostly) to find humor in things like gender stereotypes (which can be applied both ways easily) and not either get crudely sexist or high-horse oh-so-politically-correct with it.

Now for that one, I know I could think up some analogies for one of the above, but ... one other thing I like about this place is that it's quite free of the tired endless-loop left/right blue/red heated discussion that we see on many other places.

My wife bought me a Zorki~Zorki for Father’s Day, so this is a no-brainer. Every time I look at The 1, I think of The One ... so I handle both with care. They’re both examples of a petite, wonderfully built, head-turner that fits comfortably in my hand. Both have a low maintenance, straight-forward, rock solid style that always rallies my confidence; the confidence that with 50 years behind us, whatever challenges or conditions we find ourselves in the future, they’ll be at my shoulder in fairly good shape… and I have no doubt that both will still shine at the end. I'm proud to be seen with both anytime, any place ... and I never get tired of looking at The One through the viewfinder of The 1.

I'm not trying to be politically correct. Rather, the opposite. I'd like more POLITICAL incorrectness. I just find it weird we can make sexist jokes without anyone complaining but not political ones. It's all a bit boys-behind-the-bicycle sheds, while refusing to discuss grown-up topics.

I find political jokes MUCH funnier. In fact, I realized that Al Gore is easy: Gandolfi. Top quality, everything well thought out, probably the best available, but still, ultimately, wooden.
