Hello.

Some time ago I bought a Nikon S in very good shape. It included lens, case, original box, guarantee and some little extras, but unfortunately no instructions booklet. I'd like to buy the instructions to complete the kit. I noticed there are several types of instructions booklets for the S model, I've seen at least one with frontpage in blue, another in green, another in white and orange.

My S has a serial number 6124864 and according to the certificate of guarantee, it dates from 4 Sept 1954. Could you help me to identify the right one for my camera?

If anyone has a spare one for sale please contact me.

Thanks,

Arturo

Hi Kiu,

I'm a bit puzzled on this one. I thought the instruction book for the Nikon S was this

http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/companies/nikon/htmls/models/htmls/NikonS-Manual/index.htm

I have one with a different cover though. It's only a photocopy of an original instruction book, which I found at a camera trade fair (together with S2, SP and S3 instruction books, all photocopies).

If there is a way to attach a pdf file to this post, I could send you the cover.

The text is the same as the one on www.mir.com.my , but different pictures are displayed on page 14 and a different viewfinder is displayed on page 27. How many instruction books for the S have actually existed, or are we looking at one for the M?

Any info is greatly appreciated.

The instruction book for the "Nikon" as it was originally called is a complicated matter, It started with the yellow one(Nikon I) on the left followed by the one on the right(Nikon M):

The Nikon M synch has a extra page for the flash sych that was added to the Nikon M!! untill they decided to print one for it:

Then there were these:

The one I posted in my first reply is the last one.

I may have missed one!
Fred would know better.

Thanks Kiu. The one I have a photocopy of is the one with the green cover (the last one of the 5 you pictured here). So there never was any mention of the model name, M or S, in any of the instruction books?

Nope,
Nippon Kogaku started by calling their camera "Nikon", the designation for the whole model was 6FB, there were 43 batches for a total of a little over 39000 cameras which includes the Nikon I, M, MS and finally the Nikon S.
Sooooo, from the factory's point of view, they were all the same camera! Just improved.
