Which is the best LTM lens Canon 50/1.8,Nikkor 5cm F2 and Summitar for B&W?

And IS Nikkor 50/2 is the same optic with Jupiter 8?

thank you

General purpose (everything including landscapes): Canon
Portrait: Nikkor
Compactness: Summitar

YMMV.

Go for a J8 $.

The Nikkor is a similar design.

The Canon is similar to the Summitar in design (layout) but uses later glass and is higher contrast. The Leitz glass and coatings are soft and easier to scratch.

But mechanically and finish the Summitar is a jewel, a fondlers dream.

You will detect the Summitar will flare frequently, the Nikon almost never, but will need slooooow B&W, heavy tripod, and microscope to see other differences, and the Canon may be the best off axis on an optical chart. Without Kodachrome 25 you wount see this easily normally.

All three are very nice, you can't go wrong. Price wise the Canon is almost the best bargain LTM 50mm lens available. All three have pretty different characters. I would suggest you search out photos here, at flickr or pbase taken with each to see if the performance of one stands out to you more than the other two.

I've never used the Nikkor, but I own both the Canon and the Summitar, and it's the latter that gets all the use. Technically the Canon might just have a tiny advantage over the Leitz, but in terms of character I find the Summitar much more attractive. It's also a joy to handle.
