i handled a NEX today at a best buy store. i just can't grasp the idea of focusing well away from my eye.
too small for a door stop. it is a tidy machine, and if i could focus/compose that way, it'd have a tidy lens on it instead of that big ol' beer can zoom ...

I was actually pleasantly surprised at how easy it is to focus a manual lens on the little thing.

Not me. Can't focus manual lens at all and I find the magnification awkward. Also, I find the focusing tabs on my Leica lenses, which are so ergonomic on the Leica (for me) just get in the way on the nex. Won't be using any legacy lenses on mine...

The small Cosina-Voigtländer 25mm f4 Snapshot Skopar.
But as I have both Leica M and Nikon adapters, I tend to use all of those.

Of course, the NEX is not the first camera to require that the user focus by holding it away from their face. Fairly recently, a very respectable duo in Germany made a bunch of similarly focusing cameras, which were quite the rage. I think their names were Franke & Heidecke. Superlative devices indeed.
On the NEX, I use my CV 35/1.4 most, followed by SMC Tak 50/1.4 and Nikkor 105/2.5 Ai-S. Love them all.
I passed the Rollei to my girlfriend.

I've got the 18-55mm and 16mm and just got an LTM adapter. I've been so busy with work I haven't had a chance to try my NEX-5 with my I-61 yet.

As I've mentioned before, there is no reason to focus with the camera at arms length. Spend $40 on this:

The CV 21mm in LTM. Gives a view approximating 35mm, pretty much focus free

I looked into it and found it too bulky for me. I am ok with just using the excellent LCD.😉

Lately, the pancake Hexanon AR 40/1.8, for wider, the Canon 28/2.8 ltm, or ltm CV 21/4. For longer, the Hexanon AR 57/1.4. The Nikon glass works well, but is just too bulky, easier to slap on to a dslr.

Too bulky how? It really only adds a little length to one dimension, and it hasn't changed the way the camera fits into any of my various bags. Honestly, I barely notice any handling difference with the thing attached at all. It certainly is less noticeable than an add-on EVF would be.

CV 25mm f4 > Zeiss Biogon 35mm f2 > kit 18-55 zoom when I just want a point and shoot. I am loving this thing. When I get a Nikon slr lens adapter I can see using my 24 mm f2.8 regularly as well.

anyways I find the M/F assist to be very useable.
I use a VC 35mm Color Skopar mostly. My favorite lens, the canon 50/1.2 is mostly stuck to my everyday Bessa R. Im going to try to use it more, but man it is heavy. 🙂
Bought the NEX used without a lens, specificially to use with my LTM stuff.
But now I'm kind of regretting not getting the OEM 16mm A/F. I like my cameras as manual as possible, but sometimes you just want to pass the camera to someone at a party an get them to take a photo, without worrying they are going to unscrew the lens while trying to focus. Also, it would be nice to be able to fit it inside a pocket.

For me it's the 16mm.. I haven't exhausted its possibilities yet. Besides, even when cropped to a smaller FOV, the image quality is so good (especially in the center) that there's somewhat of a treshold to leave it at home and go with a 25 or 35 manual focus lens instead.

ZM C-Biogon 35 f2.8 is my most used lens, and I switch to Nokton 35 f1.4 or Contax G 35 f2 when the light goes down.
