now i just got the canon P and now i'm looking for lens 35mm 50mm and 85mm can u guys recomment me which is good for me in low price

As our fearless moderator would say, Canon on Canon 🙄

But the truth is you can find excellent Canon lenses on all those three focal lenghts, and with some patience you can get them for some excellent prices as well 🙂

The 35/2.8, 50/1.8 and 85/2 make for a very nice combo, for example.

Good luck !

the 35/2.8 is a great lens and if sold without the finder & case can be had for about 200u.s.

the 50/1.8 is a best bet if you don't want/need the speed of the 1.4 lens.

for cheap, try the 100/4 canon lens, small & solid. for a bit more the 100/3.5 is tiny & light.

the 85/2 has it's detractors but i think it's plenty sharp. but it's big & heavy. (in rf terms)

good luck on your search!

IMO the P is wonderful enough (more wonderful than Voigtlander R2/3) that a person might want the best Canon lenses (black), or Leica, or CV...rather than Serenar.

Depends on your photo goals/practices, of course. My main Leica lens is/was a 35 3.5 Summaron... I'm hoping my new/old Canon 35 f2 turns out to be as good (was hard to find a good hood).

I'd bet most P shooters prioritize 35, even though the finder's less than perfect for that focal length. It IS perfect for 50... I'd go for the Canon 1.4 (rather than the oversized Nokton) if I could find one that was optically perfect for the same price ($300). Every lens, even my slow Summaron, is *significantly*sharper/more contrasty with a hood in most lighting conditions... a hood should be high on the shopping list.

i have been looking at lenses differently since reading sean reid's articles on the rd-1.

as i understand it, each lens 'draws' a bit differently than another.
having shot some stuff with all three 35mm lenses that i have, i can see some differences and can maybe start to look at using them for different purposes, like, using one over another depending on the quality of light and what i'm hoping to achieve.

i certainly need to shoot more to really judge adequately.

Joe...I've misplaced my digital camera 🙂

It's a very conventional vented Kenko hood, not tapered, 18mm deep and 60mm dia...it's easily missed in the viewfinder because the vents do their invisible-making job. It's not clamp-on, it's slip-on type with very strong, nicely executed chromed springs. I've not lost it yet...somewhere I've got some braided black kevlar-like thread (bowstring material) that I plan to use to leash it to the neckstrap ring on the lefthand side, using some kind of clip so I can change lenses 🙂

If I clamp it on my UV filter it definitely vignettes. Without the UV's extra depth it seems not to vignette...I've shot only one roll and it wasn't adequately critical. Unfortunately it's got no threads inside so it won't be easy to use with a UV... I may pop some glass out of another ring to insert in the hood, if I can find the right size and figure out a good, non-permanent attachment method.

sounds good john. as long as it works eh?

i have decided to buy another 40mm hood from cameraquest. i like the small size and they work well. i could just change out the hood depending on which 35 i use but i'd prefer a seperate hood for each lens.

you don't need a hood for your 50/1.8 do ya?

I'd get 35/50/100 (rather than 85) to match the P's framelines.

What Joe said re the 100/3.5.

The 100/2 is legendary, but so scarce and incredibly expensive.

I finally gave up and bought a 100/2 FD mount in BGN condition from KEH for $149. Same optical formula, more accurate framing and focusing.

"the 85/2 has it's detractors but i think it's plenty sharp. but it's big & heavy. (in rf terms)"

I have a Canon f/2. It is heavy but I think very sharp. I would recommend it, I got it from a member for $150. It was super clean and bright without marks.

Sure enough, kinche-l is Kevin Cameras' buying name, he sells as gokevincameras.

On 3/19/2004, he bought a Canon S-II with 50/3.5 Serenar. Nice shape, dodgy seller. $234.50. (From my records of past interesting auctions.)

Now, he's offering the exact same camera and lens (serial numbers match), minus the Leica black A36 lens cap (perhaps plus a case) for $875 (item 7535368285).

Anyone want to try a "Submit Best Offer" of $234.50?

I'd always assumed that kinche-l was a Japanese dealer, from the name. (Not that I have any idea if that's a real Japanese name.)

Of course, he buys from pretty dodgy sellers. He must wind up with some dogs, too. As I've seen in other discussions (someone who visited him), he does have "second quality" stuff that he doesn't sell through his web storefront.

He must be doing a good business, as he buys many thousands of dollars worth of camera gear on eBay a month...
