Which Nikon?

Clearly a Nikon, but F2? Maybe? Or a bit later? Kind of looks like an Fm2 but I don't know them well enough to really say.

I would really like to see the contact sheet from this.

So how was the shutter tripped? I see some lever on the lower left of the bracket (i.e. right side in the picture) but I can't believe Hill would be taking his hands off the wheel and shifter.

Shutter is tripped electrically via the F36 motor drive. You can see the electrical connector low on the "rewind" side of the drive. It provided the electrical power for the drive as well as the shutter release.

I'm not so sure that the lens is a 28mm f/3.5. It looks more like the 21mm f/4 to me.

More likely the mirror-up only 21mm f/4 considering the subject material; a 28 would be too narrow to get the effect of seeing the view from the drivers perspective.

I don't think it's the 21mm. I have one, it's a bit fatter nose and doesn't have a silver face ring (though, might be a filter).

Wandering further down the internet rabbit hole, it's a Gordon Enterprises Helmet mount and a couple of sources point toward a modified Pentax 18mm. Apparently they were worn in practice for the 1966 Monaco Grand Prix. Here's another link:

It looks too shallow for the 21. There is no dull chrome part at the bottom. Also, the first element looks larger for the 2.1cm. If it had a filter I would expect a reflection on the moniker not just the glass.

Looks like a Marty Forscher special if I was guessing.
