which photographer would you want to talk with?

I would like to speak with Robert Capa but not expecially about photography. Only problem is that based on his reputation he would probably ask me for a loan to gamble on a horse, drink all my liquor and then hit on my wife. :D Before charming me and doing it all again the next day.

I like Capa's persona in some ways. A bit of a rascal. In fact he reminds me of my dad, likewise a bit of a rascal. He was a bit younger than Capa being only about 16 at the end of WW 2 but both were Budapest boys who proved the old adage that a Hungarian is the only person who can walk into a revolving door behind you and come out in front. HCB was always a bit caustic about Capa, claiming that when with Magnum, he and the other photographers earned all the money and Capa spent it all. I get the impression that if Capa ever won a lottery he would spend 75% of the winnings on wine, women and song. The rest he would waste. He was that sort of guy.

Edward Steichen.
I read his book (and some books about him), and I'd like to hear him tell the stories again.

There are some others also, if Edward is too busy.

I did get a chance to meet my favourite. Yup, disappointing... Great guy, but still human.
 
Since I have been Fortunate to Meet & Chat with Elliot Erwitt on a number of Occasions

I would have Loved to have met Two WOMEN Photographers (unfortunately Both deceased)

Andre Kertesz. But I've already managed to speak with two others on my list -- Sebastiao Salgado and Alfred Eisenstaedt -- so I think they'll do.
 
Going to school in NH I had the chance to meet and work with Lotte Jacobi (look her up) who like Richard Avedon and Irving Penn photographed many notable people of her generation. So...I'd love's to have been able to meet them both not only for their obvious technical and artistic mastery but more importantly (to me) for their sbility to relate to their subjects. In the same vein I'd love to meet Elliot Erwitt for his sense of humor about life.
 
I would say Walker Evans, but he sounds like a real pain in the ass guy to spend time with, so I'm going to pick a great photographer that was willing to put up with Evans --Helen Levitt.
 
Diane Arbus ... and find out how you can make such innocent subject material appear so malevolent at times?

That aspect of her work has always blown me away!
 
And Jane Bown .... to congratulate her on her wonderfully uncomplicated portraiture and find out how she achieves such an incredible sense of intimacy with her subjects.
