Which "Pocket" camera are you using?

Pentax Espio Mini (was known as UC-1 in the USA). Very small P&S with 32/3.5 lens. I found it better than the first generation of Olympus Stylus which I had before I got the Pentax. It has a nice passive AF which will "see" through glass and even mosquito screens. It also has slow speeds and B (with or without flash synch). Nice little camera to have in my bag and bring at parties and such.

I have a couple of XA2's but the Stylus SE (the fixed 28mm lens version) is what I keep in my turnout gear at the fire station. People think the XA2's are digicams, it's kind of funny I guess. Maybe not. Both these cameras can be worked with gloves on. I keep Kodak 800 Max in the SE. If I can find some DX stickers for ISO 1000 I'd consider Tri-X.

I have two pocket cameras which fit well in my pants or fleecy pockets. I have a black Rollie 35 s, lovly little 35mm camera with a 40mm/f2.8 sonnar lens which gives fantastic results and for 120 I have a Zeiss Ikon Ikonta folda with a 75/f3.5 lens which gives amazing results :) Even tho the 25th speed is rooted.

They are nice and compact :)

I'm thinking about getting a IIIa with a 50mm Elmar.

I have that... very small package. The 35mm Elmar is even smaller, and doesn't need to be collapsed. The Zorki 2C w/ I-22 is the same size and a lot cheaper :) but doesn't have the smoothness.

I also have a Retina IIa w/ F2 Xenon... tough little camera and folds up very nicely. Of course, there's also the digicam, but we won't talk about that here

M2, CV 35/2.5 Classic. Nice and snug in my jacket pocket. Balance the jacket with a 28/1.9 or 50/1.5 in the other pocket.

Nice and snug?!? Are you sure that's an M2 you got there? It's a bit heavy; with the lens it's quite "flat", but the camera itself is rather heavy. Those are hefty pockets you have, I'm impressed!

FED 2 with collapsible FED 50/3.5. Probably same size as a IIIg. But then you have to also tote along a light meter. Also, you are never quite sure what you're going to get with the FED 2. I get better results with a Jupiter 8 attached to it, but that makes it larger.

So, realistically I use my venerable bought-new-in-'96 Yashica T4 Super or an Olympus XA. Here in the Arizona desert you can't wear any sort of jacket from May through October, so it's got to be something that will fit into those loose trousers with side pockets.

Or, if I'm hiking around, I wear a small fanny pak that's got a sleeve on each side for water bottles. I'll put the largest water bottle I can find into one sleeve and a Bessa R with 35/2.5 into the other. I've removed the neck strap and fitted one of Gordie's wrist straps to it so there's nothing dangling. Now I've got a serious camera.

But for a sheer no-brainer, nothing beats the T4 Super. It's got a better lens than the XA plus auto focus plus the little stealth viewfinder on the top of the camera. If you're wearing anything with a pocket, it'll fit into it. It's also quite unobtrusive, looks like a point and shoot, which it is, but then they don't know about the Carl Zeiss lens. (It's our little secret).

Usually a New Canonet QL 19, but if it has to be damn small... ok! the Beirette Electronic. Small as a Leica CL, black, no RF just VF, but comfortable and with a sharp lens as I would need, allways with some HP5 or any ISO 400 colour neg rolls in my backpack. Besides, I´m allways carrying a table tripod and some other gadgets in case I need something really stable. Anyway, something that can fit inside my shoulder bag.

Normally one of my Contax T's, usually loaded with Scala but recently I've become enamored of my Zeiss Ikon S312. A little bigger than the T but still pocketable and with a better viewfinder.

It's nobody's little secret. You priced a T4 Super lately? I did and ended up with the SE. I need another one now for backup.

No. I haven't priced one at all. Hadn't occurred to me. I'm well aware they don't make them anymore, and that the T4 Zoom - or whatever it's called - is simply not the same camera.

I think I paid something like $160 USD back then, but I'm not sure. What are they going for now?

Olympus XA, XA2, XA3, or XA4 (I must really like these cameras), or an Olympus Infinity Stylus Zoom, 35-70mm. Small, light, sharp lenses.

For you guys who use the barnack or barnack copy cameras with collapsible lens (elmar, industar, fed) as pocket cameras ---- considering how hard it is to find filters or caps for these lenses, do you cover the lens when it's in your pocket, or just pocket it "naked?"

35 mm : Olympus XA; XA2; Stylus; Zeiss Ikonette
MF - 120 : Voigtlander Perkeo I and II - 6 x6; Zeiss Ikonta 531 / 6 x 4.5

The XA2 is amazing for high quality grab shots.
The XA is great because it is a true RF.
The Zeiss Ikonette is a 'crappy cam' that I love to shoot because it is crappy!
The Perkeos and the Ikonta are two of the smallest MF cameras ever made. This means a big piece of film in my pocket. I like big transparencies and negs for the enlargements and detail they provide.

there you go!

I must have smaller pockets! I carry a tiny Canon ELPH Jr., an APS rig with fixed 26mm f/2.8 lens. I also got an Elikon, a Belomo copy of the XA, but have yet to give it a try.

Another vote for the Contax T. Pocket sized, true RF, super quiet operation, no motors, zero-lag leaf shutter:

my first post on RFF...

I use a IIIf with an Elmar 50/3.5; surprisingly pocketable, tho heavy. Meter (Sekonic L-108) in the other pocket.

Once in a while I'll use a Summitar if I need the speed, but it's surprisingly bulky in comparison.

ray_g - I bought a few cheapo Kaiser brand push-on caps. Ugly, but quite functional. And no big loss when (not if) I lose it.
