Which "Pocket" camera are you using?

Olympus XA2 - just about the best camera of its type ever made and its smaller than a pack of cigs with a terrific zuiko lens. Another favourite is my Rollei B35 but for ease of use the XA2 wins by a mile.

Several of you claim to have fanny packs. A word of advice from the UK. Never ever go into a camera shop in the UK and ask for anything that fits into your fanny pack. Seriously, don't do it or you may well receive some unexpected gynaecological surgery!

Tower 3 w/Canon 35mm or Nikkor 50mm; a little buggy but if I don't wind it too fast it works great.
Usually I have a small shoulder bag though and carry my Canon L1 and 2-3 lenses. The Canon 35mm is a fave because it's so small and a great length. I just got a Heliar 15mm though and while it's a specialty lens, it's very small and the novelty hasn't worn off yet for me.

Always a good idea to look at the gas meter before reading posts like this . . . and since my bank account does not allow even buying a new lens-cap for the Elmarit M 28mm so i can photograph it now and then, I consider this for safe reading . . . And now back to the topic 😉.

Have a Ricoh GR1s that i used a lot before, mostly for color photography, but since i haven´t found any good lab for color-prints the camera lives in a drawer for the moment. Got a XA half a year ago, but it´s dead, have to get it repaired some day, but it´s expensive, might start looking for a working one, but i dont exactly need it. when i was a student i had a Minox GT-X, but had to sell it since sometimes you have to pay bills .. . . and have ever since been looking for a Contax T, but that is more like a another story, have seen it for sale in Sweden, but 5500 sek ( about 708 usd) is more than i like to pay right now, Living in Buenos Aires is more fun than that, even though the T is supposed to be a really good camera.

So, the M6 have to work as my "pocket camera" right now 🙂, and after i got my old camerabag by mail it works even better walking around in "centro".

And tomorrow I have to look for a place that would like to repair my Practica MLT 50.

A Zorki of FED 1 (or Leica II or III) with collapsible lens will fit in almost any coat pocket or one of this little carrying cases for point-and-shoots of digitals. I usually keep one with me loaded with black and white film just in case I run into a photo opportunity. They are a little heavier than fixed lens RFs but can take a terrible beating and keep in shooting.

I used to carry a MJu 11 until I noticed a mark on the lens shortly after my wife used it. I didn't like having to remember to cancel the flash every time I switched it on.
I switched to a Konica Kd500 that slipped easily into my trouser pocket, and out again on a Spanish train together with a card full of location "coffee and camera" shots. Its replacement is a Ricoh Caplio Gx8, I've bought pouch to attach to my belt. If you turn the lights down and squint a bit, it almost looks like a little black rangefinder and it has all sorts of controls to let me beleave I'm in charge.
The Fed 3 gives me a distinct list to starboard even with the collapsable 50mm.

So you take the M6 with you on the way to work? On your walk to lunch during your lunch hour? On your way to that next meeting? When you take the garbage out? Etc, etc, etc.

Sorry, do not mean to sound flippant but I have my pocket camera with me ALL the time (well, 99% of the time anyway) and have gotten some great shots as a result.

If you do not want to have a camera with you that much then I guess yes, you have no need for a pocket camera.

My pocket camera is not my first choice by any means (and I believe not most others' either) but I certainly do not want to carry my M3 or MP with me all the time, but I do want a camera with me most of the time.....

Cool! It doesn't really require a pocket camera to carry pretty much everywhere. For me it might be an M2 or CLE or Contax G2... or a Bronica RF645.. which are all pretty compact I think. Yes, to lunch, to pick up the mail, to get the car at the repair shop, or running around town paying the bills. If you don't have a camera when you see a good shot, the shot can't be taken. If you won't be bothered to carry your "good" camera, then a pocket camera will do... since "having a camera" is the important thing. 🙂

Hmm, to be honest I don't take my M6 with me when I take out the trash! 🙂

But, in all of the other instances I do take the M6. I changed from a Hasselblad outfit to the M, so to me the M is a pocket camera to me. As I have become more and more used to working with the M, everything else seems very confusing to me. I like the simplicity of having one outfit, and with this one outfit I have total control over what is going on. Maybe that makes me a simple photgrapher, but if that is the case, then I am happy to be a simple photographer.

However - I guess, yes - I take my M6 with me all the time. It's great for me, but it doesn't work for other people, and I think that having equipment that works well for you makes the process easier.

All that being said - I have thought about a Rollei 35!

Hi,

Newbie, here. Haven't seen anyone mention a Leica CL with 40mm Summicron C yet. A teeny bit bigger than my old Minolta HiMatic F or a Rollei 35, but still pretty much pocketable. Fast to use, quiet, great pix.

I do not want to compromise too much, so I choose from a Hexar AF, or a Leica M2 or Hexar RF with a small lens. Then I use a camera strap, Lutz sling, put the camera in a back pack or just on the seat in the car to get both hands free.

If I did not have too many cameras and was starting over, I might consider a CLE or a Rollei 35. But on the other hand, any of the three mentioned above does it for me.

Incidentally, I'm often carrying the CL, but with the 40mm Rokkor, as my 'daily' camera (though I often switch - other options are the HiMatic7SII, Oly XA, BessaR, and quite often a Rolleicord (though that's more of a 'backpack' than 'pocket' camera...))

considering im used to lugging a EOS 3 w/ PB-E2 ( about the size and weight of a 1DS ) with a big lens, or my 10D with grip, also with a big lens, carrying around the R-D1 feels so effortless and light, i could walk and shoot all day and not be bothered ( try carrying an RZ67, a 10D, an EOS 3, and 6 lenses all together, along with film, and other gadgets, all on your back, for HOURSSSS lol. sometimes i even had my 17" powerbook in that bag also)

I tend to carry with me now the Canonet, though as soon as I can get it fixed it's probably going to end up being the Olympus Pen EE that gets used as a pocket camera. It's so...Lomo.
