Thanks to the Dreaded Vertical Line Problem appearing on my M8, it looks like an M2 (out for repair, at the moment) or an M4-P (waiting for me at the Post Office, at the moment) will be my camera for the rest of the Spring. Today, it'll be the XA or the F3hp.

I'm using my IIIc at the moment. I think the machines at the local 1-hour photo lab (no other means of developing my films) might not like me tampering with film leaders, so I'm currently loading the camera with the shutter set to T, and poking the film leader into place via the open shutter.

Needs must, as they say. :)

Ouch. Sorry to hear about this. Has this happened before?

Near as I can tell, it started around February of 2009, but only in under-exposed ISO 2500 & 1250 files. Lately, it's been sneaking into all my ISO 1250 files and I think I might see a few underexposed ISO 640 files with it.

Sorry to hear and hope you can get it fixed quickly without hassle.

There IS a way to "repair" your lined files... Viewing your processed TIFF at 100% in your editing software, locate the line, select everything to the right of it, and move that selected part leftward 1 pixel to cover the line. I can't tell where the line was, after that. At least this prevents the line from showing up in large prints etc. Good luck!

Oh, excellent! There are a few frames that I really like that are marred by the VL, so that's good news! Thanks, Doug!

Well I voted for the Leica M8, but since today I also have a Yashica Electro 35 GSN, and can't wait to try it out. There is something about not having an LCD screen and lots of settings... I just hope that the "electro" shutter works as well as many people claim.
