who is going to line up for the new Thambar?

What is the anticipated cost for such a lens? I did not see the price listed. I may have missed it.

my guess: $7000?

A diffusion filter on my 90/2.8 Tele-Elmarit will likely provide a very similar effect.
I will have to pass on this one.

My guess was very close to the true price.
Once I will win zillion of Dollars somehow, I will get one. It looks like a cool lens to get and use if you have tons of money to burn.

If Lomo made this and sold it for $700, people would lay an egg.

I'm waiting for the 7Artisans version for $29.99.
😉

Lensbaby made a pretty good version--their "soft focus optic"---they're about $50 on ebay. The rendition beats the Thambar, I think. It's interesting that Leica's sample pix showcase some of the worst effects you can get with this type of lens if you haven't shot one before. If you want to spend a bit more for a fancy mount, there's the Lensbaby Velvet 56.

No, the effect is not the same as a soft focus filter. The thing that draws people to real soft focus lenses is the increased depth of field at larger openings.

Would luv to have one..but at $6500..for a 1 trick pony...
I wonder what it will do to the used Thambar market..those HK dealers...sittin on them..suddenly aint worth what they used to be..
For that kind of bread..I could get a Cooke SF for 4x5...the recent model used..for about 1/2 the price..

Vaseline on the UV/haze filter on my 90mm Elmarit-M, same thing, cost, $.05

I guess some people with massively disposable income need new toys.

Best,
-Tim

If I had that much cash in my camera gear slush fund, I'd rather pay $4 more and get the Fuji GFX medium format body. I can always put a nose print on my Leica glass for much less.😉

I suppose most of them will end up as collectible items, never to be used. Although I suppose that was the aim to begin with.

Its a good lens but like Pioneer said, there are better alternatives to get the effect.

Will pass.
