Who is NOT on the 'Camera and Coffee' thread

camera and wine:

Why is it that RF cameras/lenses only focus down to a little less than 1m? Even a cheap slr with a macro lens, extender, or suplimentary lens will focus close. Not even the expensive Leica can focus closer than a cheap fixed lens camera.

Oh, it's wine, not whine!

My Coffee and Camera have gone.
I've never looked.

I've wondered that too. The Pentax will easily focus down to 15" or so with no help from any makeshifts, while the Mamiya goes only to 1m and the GIII to .8m. I assume there's some kind of a practical limitation as to how far that mirror/lens/prism/whatever can turn within the rangefinder assembly.

You are correct, at some point (probably very close to 0.7m), a reasonably-priced RF can no longer compensate for parallax & w/the advent of SLRs, there's no reason to bother making one (in the old pre-SLR days, Leitz, Zeiss Ikon, Canon, etc., as well as 3rd-party manufacturers, made close-up accessories).

I like coffee but I think ultimately I'm just lazy. Pathetic, I know, but what can you do?

Cheers,

It has to be tea and camera, surely . . . Tea and hot, buttered, Zorki anyone ?
Certainly you meant tea and "sconicas"? 😉

I'm with the leaf, not the bean, so no, I never dived into that thread. Just discovered Scottish Breakfast tea (note to MacAulay/Jenni: why has this stuff been a big secret till now?).
