I have a lot of respect for Godfrey`s experience but I`m afraid that phrase does jar with me.
In todays world of ever present surveillance it has unfortunate Orwellian undertones.
I`m sure that isn`t the intention.
On the wider issues ,whilst its been informative to learn about the workings and machinations of moderating a forum ,I find myself yearning to get back to a lens and bag thread.
The forum would run much smoother if people didn`t introduce their personal politics and into the threads.
I would suggest that the moderators direct their attention to that more.
I agree.
One might look up the term "moderator" and study a bit before trying to be or appoint one.
Just my ever-so humble opinion, of course.
What was that famous Snagglepuss line?

Get over yourselves and let's get on with the show! (like I really needed to say that!

My school doesn't have hall monitors, we have several police officers!

don't have mods in real life?
security guards
police
army
hall monitors
i wonder about that...
I live in Australia mate. Over here its all sweetness and light. We don't have security guards, police, army or hall monitors. We only have 18 year old women in leather bikinis wielding whips and a smile. That's all it takes to keep us in line and happy. :^)

I find Godfrey's posting style highly personal, aggressive and antagonistic towards others, so much so that (not having realised he is a moderator) I tried to click "ignore".
I rarely contribute posts to RFF, simply because I see so many apparently innocuous questions being railroaded off topic, or because of the aggression and rudeness on display. It frankly amazes me when I see posters commenting on what a civil and helpful forum it is. My "ignore list" while not very long, is longer here than at any other forum.
FWIW, I think the forum could be more heavily moderated to address rudeness and aggression. But I also think moderators should be aware of the need for humility in positions of power.

Yes,
You "Purelight" guys have really been attacking Godfrey (amongst others) at purelight-forum. Your "chat-box" makes interesting reading.
And what's with the avatar changes? Trying to confuse the enemy?

Personally I don't think he's that aggressive. I just think he has a thin skin and needs to tone down the moderator talk. All in all I don't think he's a malevolent guy.

A great asset to the forum offering very sage advice is my opinion.
I just don`t care for the phrase.

I'm not "attacking" Godfrey, I am expressing an opinion.
I've never been to "Purelight", and I have no idea what "my chat box" is.

Absolutely true. It's the members who seconded and thirded your remark that I was addressing, not you. (I deleted your name from the quote.)I'm not "attacking" Godfrey, I am expressing an opinion.

Hi George. I'm glad you find my opinion worth comment. You'd be more than welcome at Purelight, but you need to be aware that the site is self moderating so you may not like it.
I have to say you've become terribly involved in the forum for a new member with only five posts to his name. Do you have a past history here?

You're deflecting.
