I see it from time to time either on the web (the lomographers used to offer them) and now I saw one at the Vienna leica shop.
Who has experience with that camera? Is it a user camera or rather a collectors item?

unfortunately I haven't shot with one of these babies. I had ordered a T981 when they were for sale on the lomography site, but due to a mix-up, never received it. The little bit of useful information I've found has been on the right honorable Mr. Gandy's cameraquest site. The primary concern, as I recall, is that the shutter isn't 100% light-tight, so capping your lens when you aren't shooting is advised. I wish that I could be more help, but a yasuhara is still on my wish list instead in the bag. Best of luck, and please share any other info you find! Best, Dave

The problem is allegedly that the shutter is from an SLR which relies on the mirror to keep light levels down. No mirror; highly directional light; light leaks. Hence cap when not shooting, and change lenses under subdued light.

Thanks for your answers! The Leicashop in Vienna has a Yasuhara for sale. When I saw it there standing right beside Leica M's and a Hexar I was underwhelmed. Seems to be what you felt when you handled it. After reading so much about it and then seeing it right beside Leica M's and it has the rather stellar price of 640€. I think I'll handle it in the next few weeks. Seeing it a few inches away it looked as if somebody simplified an R 2a and had it made to the standards of a Fed 5

But yes; sort of. It's a hand-made camera which of course antedates the R2A. 'Underwhelmed' may be a very fair assessment, especially at 640€.
