Why do people bother with ink jet?

When you can just go to lab and get prints done on a £1/4 million pound light jet printer for less money and no pixels no matter how close you look.

My Epson R1800 does higher quality prints than anything I have ever seen from a lab and gives me total control. Why would I want inferior prints with no control? I also use a HiTouch S400 dye sub printer for 4x6 prints. It's also better quality with more control than anything I can get commercially. Have you actually tried any of the new ink jets? They are phenomenal.

Tuolumne is right. Also the arquival quality of prints from the R1800 (on decent paper) is probably better than anything you can get from a lab (unless they are using similar gear).

I'm now using an all carbon, 3 black ink set on my R1800. I am now very happy with the results and confident in the archival quality of carbon based inks.

It's very convenient, and I can get stunning prints from the B9180.

It was expensive, but well worth it.

The answer is trivial. You have such lab close to where you live.
I live in a country where it is hopeless to find one.
And even if it were not so I would anyway prefer to do it myself

I am an amateur.When I used to make darkroom prints people used to ask why I bothered when I could get prints much cheaper,easier and in color too!
For me its not the getting there.I enjoy the journey.Yes, they are still B/W
