Just thought I'd start a thread about "Why is it, when..."
Heres' my first go:
"Why is it, when I wanted an accessory rangefinder to use with my Ensign Selfix 16-20 mk2 I was mostly finding ones marked in Metres and it took me a while to find one not only marked in feet, but marked fairly closely with the same distances on the lens, and now that I'm looking for one to use with my Welta Weltax all the ones I can find that aren't in Ukraine or Russia are marked in Feet? I Mean ALL of them. You'd think the Germans had always measured things in Feet and had never heard of Metres.
The only ones I can find are Lomo Bliks, and even though they are marked in the same units and distances as on the Weltax's lens, they are ALL in Russia or the Ukraine. I've bought two that were sold as exactly right but when they reached me they were out just enough to need adjusting, and of course I made a pig's ear of the job both times.:bang:
Is it possible for a Lomo Blik to be adjusted properly and then lose that during the time it's in the post?
Does anyone in Britain have any for sale? I've not seen any.
Rant over. Until next time.

Why is it that i got 10+ enlarger lenses and none of them fit a 39mm mount that can cover 6x9 format?!
Why is it that a 105mm i need costs much more than the same brand and quality 135mm that i have and not need?

Why is it that the Zeiss 35mm f2 ZF2 costs the same or more than the Zeiss 35mm f1.4 ZF2?
I was going to get the f2, but at this point I might as well just go for the f1.4 since it's the same price in most cases.

Why is it that I keep buying more cameras, even though I've got a couple good ones? I'm always on the hunt to upgrade.

Why is it when?
I ran away from home
I ran away from myself
I went searching for the unattainable
It was always in my mind
Yet always eluding my reach
It was the thing I couldn't find
A star to guide me safely to the beach
Quietly I roam the forum
Reading old threads and posts
Rereading things I've written
And, I sadly smile
Like the star above in the cold black sky
Guiding me to my friends
I stand here all alone and listen
To the sound of no one except for I
If I could do it all one more time
The results would be the same
For I am I and no one else
And ones destiny is destined to be
As unchangeable as the unattainable
Where the mind is free to see
That the star in the night that guides me here
Is nothing more than me

Why is it, when I decided to go back to a charity shop that I volunteer at to get back a collapsible Industar 50 that I donated, to see if I can take out the inner "thingy" that has gone rusty and sand it down and re-paint it, the ruddy thing has been sold, even though it was there for several weeks with very little interest in it, before I can get to it?
Why is it, when I went back to the charity shop that I volunteer at, to buy back four voigtlander filters (Red, Orange, Yellow and Green) in their little plastic cases, to see if I can use those cases for some filters that I have that are in cases that are too big for them, the ruddy things get sold after being there even longer than the Industar 50 lens, and with no interest in them, before I can get to them?

Why is it when I am shooting in the street and see the perfect subject at just the right distance, with perfect framing and composition and light coming from just the right direction and with just the right intensity, some dufus walks in front of me just as I press the shutter button. Every time. Every......... damn..............time!

Ah, I reckon that one is easy - human nature. We are only motivated by what we don't have. Once we have achieved the peak we cease being motivated by it as the challenge is lost.
I struggle too. I guess we all do.
