As a an entity outside of the majority shared Landscape , mindscape , common sense - autistic glitch + other stuff , it's extremely dee-ficult for me to focus upon and listen to real people .[ it's like they are out of phase , not real ]

I am , also , for various real reasons , absolutely scared silly by men , all men .OOPS !!
This is NOT A GOOD THING for a child as it eliminates 50 % of potential caregivers - 'specially as I am supposedly XY and try to '' live as a man '' by mimicry / copying

However I now realise that IT"S NOT MY FAULT - that my head is broken , so i try not to pretend to be a real person so much .

But , it's OK in cyberspace - and this forum in it's complexity and breadth of interests is a lifeline for me - i can participate from a dee-stance , and no one has belittled my strange reasons for gathering in so many Leicas and Leica-likes just to calm the constant noise in my head . [ There is only so much I can talk to Mums of autistic kids , learn / advise on ASD forums or the boy ? girl ? who am I crowd , before it gets oppressive and dee pressing . ]

I also became koshed by Kievs , which has eaten big time into my Leica like budget - and it's all you guy's fault , 'cos I am too impressionable .

When I dee's covered, almost a year ago , that both hands AND eyes could connnect to the Leica and Leica likes , I was concerned at joining a Leica forum , 'cos there seems to be a divide between the real and the USSR pretenders .

What this forum does which so few do , is invite anyone - whatever there reasons for turning to rangefinder cameras , whatever the camera , wherever , and whoever to participate without some of the supercilious attitude of some places .

Even my Leica copies / tributes seem to have a small following , though few sensibly I guess , seem to actually buy them in preference to original cameras . But no one disparages , other than gentle teasing , those who choose a dee ferent path to , in my situation , less confusion . We all seem to flinch at rthe real OTT efforts , whilst admiring the ingenuity or sheer cheek / folly of the perpetrators - and it does extend the horizons of the Red mist - some can be seen for miles through any mist !

i have not posted any pics - 'cos I have dee ficulty in getting films developed [ finances other than e-bay toy sales controlled by A.N.Other , long suffering carer which she never asked for ... ] and bewilderment with web sites and scanning etc

Yet I am still listening and posting mostly rubbish , and when all have moved on , and have had a sympathetic hearing .

So many specialist groups seem cliqueish [ spelling ?] and intolerant of those they consider not their kind of people - this just does not happen here .
OK there are strong opinions voiced , but I did not come here to hear one voice - I love the controversy and the fun side too .

So , as ever , i have said too much , but I really am gratefull to have something to occupy a dee storted mind and genuinely believe that this forum has something special in terms of tolerance - and humour / humor , depending where you are coming from !

I am just a follower here - a newbie amongst some really established long term photographers - so maybe it'snot for me to say anthing ,[ I have the greatest dee'ficulty with social strata and knowing what's acceptable ] but maybe it is the uncertain outsider who most needs the reasurance that you all provide >What do you think ?

Thanks to all of you .

You've answered your own question! :) thanks for sharing. I think your feelings are shared by many here.

:)

one of the first things that rff established was that we were going to err on the side of inclusion and not become yet another exclusive club.
the focus of rff has always been rangefinder cameras and rf photography but we did not lambast nor exclude others. we allowed a small amount of slr chat, photos taken with non rf cameras etc. while maintaining the rf focus. the moderation from the beginning was geared to keeping this place respectful and not allowing the trolls to take control.
my personal feeling is that, for me, rff is a sanctuary and no one will ever be allowed to ruin that - not as long as i am a mod here.
it's a good place with lots of good people.

I think it's mainly because there are so many people with a sensitive heart and a love for RF photography like you seem to have Dee. Sorry you are not able to post any photos I'm sure you would have some really nice photos to share.

A site that's inclusive has it's benefits. There's another photo site which vehemently shuns anything associated with digital. Except they have a gallery (you have to scan the film to get it on the website).

Dee - it would be great to see some of your photos, when you do manage to get them developed.

The great thing about photography is that the focus can be on so many things - lenses, mechanics, resolution, distortion, optical fastness, camera construction, mechanical ingenuity and perfection, mimicry and industrious emulation - Soviet cameras etc.....and of course photos!

What is great about RFF, for me, is that discussion is welcome on all these things and the only pre-requisite for taking part is that you are interested.

If you would do a proper and extensive boolean search before asking a question you would probably find that every question asked has been touched on before. However, the members here just smilingly give you and answer and don't rip you a new one. This is a hobby and a source of relaxation and should be treated that way. Don't like walking on eggshells-especially on my down time. Now lets all sing Kumbaya :D Stu

In defining success ... I guess this forum would have to be classified as very successfull. I think sometimes it wanders a little bit into right field but there are enough combined clear heads to keep it all on track. The success for me is the collective intelligence compassion and general decency that exists here amongst the members ... it has less to do with the site's advertisers moderators owner etc ... they keep the gears lubricated and the parts all working and common sense generally prevails to keep us all grounded!

By the way dee I would just like to say that I always find your posts fascinating. Your heart appears to be firmly on your sleeve and you are expressively and refreshingly honest with your thoughts and opinions ... don't ever leave ... please! :p

What other forum could members find common intereste in both Leica M8s and Ilford Sportsman for example ? Or testing lenses on how they portray an image rather than MTF charts ? Even when people don't agree, everything stays polite and respectful.

:)

thought i'd point out that the mods are members as well...

Dee,
I lurked at a bunch of other photo forums and didn't find anything like what you said below in the part of your post I quoted.
What I like about this place is that it feels more face to face than any other on-line forum I've seen.
When I first joined, I was living in a small town and there wasn't anyone else here that had any interest in these archaic cameras and methods. So as I got tired of the glazed eyes of my friends when I talked about gear/prints/aesthetics/motivation--any thing "serious" about photography, I needed to find a community of people that I could learn from and talk with.
One of my great joys from RFF is that there are folks here who have a different outlook on things than I do. And that they are willing to share their knowledge and opinions with any of us who ask.
Continue to Dee-light us, please!

What a wonderful post, Dee. Thank you for expressing your feelings so honestly. What makes RFF so successful? It's all the folks here with good hearts, like you! We are all a bit odd in our own ways. Heck, we embrace an archaic technology (RF cameras) which still use film, which we've all been told is dead. How weird is that?
