I ordered a MM. Its the perfect camera for what I do. Some people even suggest that Leica especially designed it for me.
I'm thinking its not in Leica's "best interest" to have the M10 compete or detract from the current ground swell that is around the MM.

I have an M9 that allows me to look at some properly exposed shots thank you. And I'm not saying it isn't perfectly adequate to make excellent photographs with, although you seem to umpute I meant the opposite. But the conclusion drawn from your post would be that the M10 doesn't need a larger pixel count than the M9 currently has? So why would Leica bother making an M10? I mean, I'm highly unlikely to buy an M10, but it is a bit counter intuitive at the very least for you to say it shouldn't have a higher pixel count. Its probably a good thing you aren't head of Leica's design strategy if all you can come up with is something that only suits yourself

Until they gets orders for the 501st and beyond. How many do you expect them to make in the first batch, as many as the M9?

Right about now flavor of the month is Sony RX1.
And this will change very quickly as other camera announcements pour in.
Btw, Olympus OM-D the recent past flavor of the month is completely forgotten.
Welcome to the world of digital photography. Just don't try to search for stability and certainty as far as cameras are concerned.

The MM is a nitch within a nitch. Perhaps a lot less than a standard M9 or a small fraction of.
Anyways Leica as a boutique company made a brave move and stepped up to make a unique camera. Not sure how many will be made overall, but likely production will be limited when compared to regular M9 production.

My perspective it the one of a user and once I am fine with the quality of my tool, I don't need the latest and greatest, even if the numbers indicate it might even be better. For me it is just good enough and I'm happy with it

With only a few days to go until the supposed announcement of the M10, why have we only seen a couple of 'spy shots' of the supposed M10 body from a user using what looked to be live view?
Surely the camera has been out for field testing for a number of months - is it that they're just too busy shooting, or the Leica NDA is water-tight?
Every other major manufacturer seems to have leaks - Fuji, Sony, Pentax, Hasselblad just to name a few in the lead up to photokina...
Oh well... not long to wait

The good news is that the M10 will be able to make phone calls and surf the web.
the bad news is that the Iphone 6 will run about $9000

Totally agree. And to add to this point… it's important to learn a particular platform in and out, whether it be the Leica M, Nikon, Canon, etc. Cameras are like musical instruments and it takes awhile to learn how to use them. There are so many folks out there who change cameras quicker than the weather.
This is why I love the M; no matter what model comes out there is absolutely no need to even break out the manual. Let's just hope this next model doesn't break that tradition.

Is it possible to have a digital camera without a screen? I was hoping M10 will have no screen, just an ISO dial at the back.

Not really. Too many things to set. There's not just ISO: there's also WB, format card, lens selection, DNG/JPEG, JPEG size, colour management, folder mamagement, power off, sensor cleaning, strap colour compensation...
All right, maybe I exaggerated about strap colour compensation, but without an LCD screen to tell you what's going on, the camera is badly crippled.
If you don't want any of this, shoot film.

It is possible to make one liner LCD for setting camera but that would be suited only for cameras with most of controls via dedicated wheels and knobs on body.
Or have 3" LCD as is and use modified firmware without review and play mode.
Or just set OFF in menu image review after capture is made. And don't enter Play mode between captures.

I shoot film, I wanna buy my first digital rangefinder before 21-12-2012.
Leica MM is my first choice, but I really looking forward for a minimalist digital rangefinder.
If we can connect the camera to a laptop and set everything through a software before you start shooting, is it still possible? I can live with auto WB setting.
