Why No National Photography Museum in the US?

The National Mall in Washington, D.C., has oodles of "national" museums, but why is there no National Photography Museum in the US?

What would it take to lobby for one?

Possibly because other museums (Smithsonian and Library of Congress) are so good on photography? But you're right: it does seem an odd omission.

What is the current status of Eastman House, which was the de facto national photography museum?
