It seems a little strange that among all these 'Advanced Compacts' sections there is already a section for RX1 but not for it's most obvious competitors namely the Sigma 'Merill' models.......
In the recent 'Luminous-Landscape' the DP2 Merrill was the closest thing in image quality to a Leica M9 and described as the closest thing to a medium format digital back! Presumably Sony RX1 is also of near conformity too, so why not a section for these important Fovean cameras?....(I don't own any of these cameras as yet, but I am interested to hear about them for obvious reasons.)

IMHO, not enough users, yet.
While there is the new "Other" section, I think a more general "Sigma" or "Foveon" section (to include the SD's) might be more appropriate and ultimately, more used.
Personally, I would love such a dedicated section!

My guess is that the others section is not just a grab all, but if certain camera become popular there they may end up w/ their own sub forum eventually. A general foveon section is a great idea..Burancap

It looks like we are landing here.
Great!
Perhaps a MOD could pool the rogue Sigma threads together into this section?

Oops! Missed that this was a LINK to the feedback section! LOL, sorry!
I meant the new "advanced" section!
Thanks!

Well-known
There were many Mirrorless camera sections for the likes of Samsung and Nikon and Pentax, but due to the lack of interest, they were all simply combined into an "Others" section. Same for the Advanced Compacts section.
These cameras are not popular enough for their own section.

May contain traces of nut
Back then when the Sigma DP1 was introduced in 2008, all of the Sigma threads went into the Point-N-Shoot subforum (http://rangefinderforum.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=60) and it was OK with everybody. Note that the DP1, which was the first large-sensor digital compact at all, probably was more popular around here than the Merrill models ever will be.
Also, we have too many forums already. Adding more only creates more confusion. Who needs more forums with two new posts per week?

I think the problem now is that with the recent revamping, we have Sigma threads in at least the original P&S section as well as the new "ODAFLC" section. It would simply be nice to have them unified.
My vote would be for the new "ODAFLC" section.

Did you read the paragraph what's wrong ?

Great image in package that gives you frustration in use, I wouldn't want to use one even for free

Ah, come on... for free? Use it like large format... on a tripod and just relax and make still life.

LOL, years ago I just for fun assisted a photog in his studio. He had a huge and heavy (300lbs ?) dolly to roll around his Linhof. He used Rodenstock lenses and developed his E6 Velvia sheet film on his own, adjusting even the pH of the water.
The quality he produced this way was just mind boggling. These transparencies on a light table - you wanted to reach into the photo, talking about pixel peeping nowadays ...
However that's not my style of shooting, street is spontaneous ! When I press the shutter, I want the shot taken and not some error message appearing or "not ready yet" LED flickering

True, but then again, you don't do anything but "street"?

As mentioned in some of the disjointed threads... the Merrills are anything but sluggish in this regard. Manual zone focus and the buffering means you can fire off about 350mb of shots in a few seconds. The camera system I gave up, died in similar circumstances.
