Now that Zeiss have the Contax name back from Kyocera do you think there will be a new Contax announced at this years Photokina?

Only of they get a 3rd party to license the name is my guess. Who knows though, you never can tell :)

I don 't think so, They would really have to come up with a System Digital at the release (like the Pro X1 with 3 fast most used RF lenses..and more to come)

Maybe a Mirror-less Contax G-3D ??

But, I don't see it.

Not sure to answer your question. I did hear that Kyocera will begin to make lenses for current mounts . This is very interesting to me being a long time Yashica/Contax user. As much as Contax was Zeiss it was Kyocera and Tomioka as well.... for 30 years!

What camera company needs to buy a name? They had better have some breakthrough technology to make it work.

I doubt if Contax will come back... but it has before.

What I would like to see is a Retro entry level film slr aimed at students / enthusiasts.
Very simple all manual (well maybe aperture priority). I rekon there is a hole in the market for something like this and a Contax would fit the bill. Something like an old 159 or maybe reintroduce the S2.

I don't see a film SLR at all...

The Market has 1,000's of used SLR at cut rate prices.

I bought a New Nikon FM with a 50mm f/1.4 for $350.00 in 1977, I can now get one in E+ for under $100 body only.

A film SLR would be a bad move. They must go Digital with some EVF/OVF that out preforms the X100 EVF/OVF

If they do, it will be the best damn kept secret in the world. Seems like no one has any scuples anymore, or loyalty to their employer, to keep from leaking details about upcoming products.

Samsung

Samsung

I think Samsung could use a name to stick on a high end model to help given them some credibility. I don't know if they would have anything "worthy" of the Contax brand name but I think if they have something high end in the works they would benefit from calling it a Contax rather than a Samsung.

I think it will take a direct public connection between Zeiss and Contax to get people (like me) to forget the very shabby way Kyocera treated the photo world with its uncaring exit from the photo business.

I think there will be a new Contax, just not this year. It takes too long to develop a product. Too late for this year's Photokina. But next year, maybe. The Contax name is way too valuable not to use. I hope for a film rangefinder or SLR.

I wish they would produce some sort of digital SLR full frame Contax with the old good C/Y mount (but well, they probably won't).

It is rather unlikely. I suspect the ZI cameras to be more valuable for marketing than for the Zeiss sales department - as tangible evidence that Zeiss still continues a tradition of precious consumer goods. They probably would have used Contax for the ZI if they had had the brand back then, out of sheer tradition. But now that they have already established ZI, it does not really make sense to do the same all over again with a sub-brand - what is more, with a brand whose Zeiss association has significantly watered down over the past forty years.

If Zeiss release Contax G Digital with Zeiss G lens....other manufacture like Fujifilm, Sony, Olympus should prepare to close their mirrorless or 4/3 production line..:D

While I understand what you are saying, the Sony and Olympus cameras are sold in department stores... the Contax would not be. There seems to be room for everyone right now.
