Considering the sales of the x100 and X series bodies and the trend back toward film and mechanical controls, I think actually that the Df has a very high chance of an update - either in mirrorless or Mirrored form.
I bought a Df right after they came out and I'm still delighted with it. Matter of fact if something happened to it I'd buy another. Besides beautiful files it provides a level of comfort and familiarity for an old film shooter that no other DSLR provides.

...using the manual focusing green dot was tolerable but a far cry from split image focusing. Fix this and I would get an updated versio.
Nikon should release a Df.2 as a swan song to the Mirror, with interchangeable focussing screens (One really bright split screen).
Or they could adopt mirrorless, make one with classic controls/metal body/huge viewfinder and have focus peaking and the digital split screen finder options like Fuji
Either way, I'd buy one.
I had one but sold it. Yes the image quality was wonderful. I loved the controls, but low light auto focusing was a bear. (The DF has no AF illuminater) Plus using the manual focusing green dot was tolerable but a far cry from split image focusing. Fix this and I would get an updated version.

where did you get this?
Pick up your DF. Put it to your eye. Focus on something close to you. Set the aperture at 2.8. Push the depth of field preview lever. Now set the aperture to f 1.4. Push the depth of field preview lever.
Guess what? No change.
Yeah, it works real well with manual lenses....
The thing is, Nikon knows how to make good AF work with fantastic mf. They did it with the F6 which has the best mf vf out of any SLR I have used.
They chose to cut corners with the DF. Which is reflective now in its dearth of sales.
is
As for a Df2 imo I think it is dependent on the F mount and Nikons roadmap for said mount. I think I have read that the F mount presents some difficulties for no mirror. If they do go for another Df I would want to stay at 16mp and F mount.
No DF2. There will be a mirrorless FF Nikon that will solve the focus screen and size problems. Will be an extension tube for all previous slr lenses that will make it grow back.
Will I buy one? Not a chance.
