Will you pay $7,195 for the new 50 'cron Asph?

I'm still trying to figure out how the whole history of photography — with all the images i love — was ever created before the Summicron ASPH.

We already know who will have this lens. There's a group of self-publicizing, semi-amateurs who will blog and post about how amazing it is. That 2% difference will be the world to them. And, they'll convince themselves that 2% 'better' in the glass equals 100% better on the print (flickr jpg).

If I did I would be scared to use it and would also have to hire a body guard when I went out shooting.
I once saw a local Dr out shooting that owns a cancer center, in other words he is loaded. In the back of his SUV he had three full frame Canons and several high end lenses. He probably had $20,000 worth of gear with him.

Same here. This new lens makes the 50 LUX ASPH look like a bargain. I wouldn't be surprised to see a bit of a price hike for the LUX.

I already have a 50/1.4 ASPH, bought for new for 1/3rd of the APO Summicron's price. It's plenty good enough technically for me, is a stop faster, and much cheaper. Absolutely no point in it for me.

If I were a rich enough man where $10k wasn't a big deal to me, sure why not? But I'll never have a fraction of the money required to do that.

I'm happy with my pre-ASPH Summilux that I bought some time ago now for what seems like a bargain price - I think I got it for just over $1200 - I'm never letting it go.

an, NO. i considered the cron 50 to be a relative steal in the leica world before this. now it's much more so. the new apo version might be phenomenal, but for more than three times the price! as has been intimated above, that's nocti territory!

I was annoyed by the $3500ish rumor price, but would have probably bit the bullet at that price. No justification for me at anything Over 4k, let alone 7k. The cron is now Leica's second most expensive lens, I can't imagine how much a 35 summicron apo asph would be.

Umm, I'll stick with my 35mm/F2 ASPH.

I just bought one, but don't need it and haven't used it. See RFF classifieds if anyone is interested. Heck, maybe I should keep it because it costs less than half of the new APO Cron 50! (Just joking: need to sell it.)

Hell, no. If I wanted new and sharp I'd get a Planar, if I wanted Leica I'd get the Summilux. Leica has lost it. (I have a rigid cron btw.)

I was thinking it'd be $3,295 or so--but knew I'd prefer the previous Cron 50.
