WNW: Regrets???

I was going through some old pics when I noticed I really liked some better than others, then I noticed these were taken with a lens I got rid of a few years back, a 50/1.4 summilux (2nd version I think). I never felt any affinity to the lens, it seemed big compared to a 50 'cron I had, the front element unscrewed from time to time when removing a filter, focus was looser than I like, not well damped I guess. The thing was, it really made some nice pics. Ever get rid of any gear just to regret it later, got any pics taken with it?

Yet: a 50mm f/1.4 Summitar?? You mean f/1.5 Summarit, right? Otherwise, dang! That would have been a collector's wet dream! 😉

I regret getting rid of my tabbed 50mm Summicron, but I was not using it enough. I took it out for a Swan Song a few weeks ago, and shot my first roll of Kodachrome 64 with it:

Nice pics Todd, I especially like the 2nd one. I have the very same lens bought just after you sold yours, I was interested in yours but too late. My regret is that my lens is with DAG for a CLA and I can't wait to get it back... 🙁

Were you favoring your 50/lux pre-asph more? That is a very nice lens too 🙂

Alas, it is so, Tom. 🙁 One of the most compact, and the most comfortable lens I've ever owned. My very first RF lens too. But the 50 pre-asph 'lux gets all the glory. It's attached on the M6 90% of the time, and stopped down to f/2 I get a similar performance, although the tabbed 'cron has a brilliance that no other lens has.

I traded it for the 35 'cron that is right now getting cleaned. I thought it was a good compromise. Who knows, it may open the door for me to get a 50 DR 😀

yeah I mis-typed, it now reads 50mm "Summilux", thats some nice bokeh in the your pic, I had a tabbed 'cron once too but it was stolen 🙁

wonderful shots... if I had sold those I would definitely have sellers remorse. I haven't sold anything yet but.... now I'm reading this I'll at least think about checking to be sure I go though a serious deliberation before 'lightening up'

BTW the flip side of this thread is that it shows me what some of these lenses can do. Very nice!

Todd: sorry to hear that. I'd be fuming if any of my gear were stolen. Oh, and Summilux, heh. 😱

Jan: remorse, a little...but then I think of all that time the lens spent on the shelf. Better put it back in circulation. 🙂
