I'm actually hoping for France; if only because I have never seen so many dives by a side as by Italy in the match with Germany.
OT, I think that there should be some kind of rule that says if a player goes down and is injured (either for real or as the result of a dive) he ought to be forced to 'recuperate' on the side-lines for a minute or so.
I really enjoy watching the sport but the fakery from a bunch of supposedly elite athletes is nothing short of astonishing.

ABC, the network carrying the WC here in the US, ran a "Top Ten Dives of WC 2006." It was funny, but sad too, because they showed how diving both backfired and benefited.

Both teams are pretty much equal but personally I don't want Italy to win. They have pretty much turned me off to Italian football during the 2002 WC when they sacked that Korean player for eliminating them with a goal. And also in light of the more recent match fixing revelations I just don't think Italian football has displayed the sportsmanship I feel required to be number one.

Also the commentators from ITV, usually very quick in spotting them, did not say anything about dives, actually they commented favourably about the level of fair play and sportmanship in the game.
You are of course entitled to support any team you like, but to make untrue allegations about teams you don't like looks like a childish way of making a point.

About the match fixing revelations there are no players involved, some of the executives made substantial gifts to referees and exchanged gifts among themselves to try and win some favours, this has been expecially hard on the players, since they thought they were actually playing a fair and honest game, and ended up discovering that dishonest deals were being done at their backs; that's why I hope, mainly for the players, that Italy wins it, they deserve it after what they have been put trough by some corrupt execitives.
Match fixing scandals have occurred in other countries, and quite recently also in the two major footballing nations, Brasil and Germany.

Still I don't remember anyone saying that they hoped Germany or Brasil to lose thair games because of the corruption, for some reason looks like iit is ok for corruption to occur as long as it is not in Italy. 😉

I've an objection here, the italians did not have many dives in that match with Germany, not mroe than the germans at least!

Needless to say, I'm not as 'passionate' about the sport as you. I meant no disrespect to the Italian side, and I am far from an expert about the sport.
That said, IMHO (no more no less), my general impression is that the Italian team spent a lot of time rolling on the ground trying to draw penalties. I will readily admit, though, that I grew up playing hockey and rugby. In both of those sports, getting pushed around and falling is just part of the game. Yes there is diving in hockey, but there is also a penalty (delay of game) for diving.
I suppose that what I'm trying to say is that I find that for a bunch of elite athletes, to a casual fan of the sport, they seem to spend a lot of time being unsportsmanlike rolling about on the ground trying to draw penalties.
Ergo my (admittedly non-expert) opinion that the Italians were diving.

I do understant your point, and by no means I think that the Italian team is perfect.
I also have no problem if you support France (or any other team) because you like Zidane, find the team more agreable, like the culture more or anything else, or because of a visceral dislike of Italy, it is your business and I am ok with it.
However if you say you dislike a team because of some specific event, it would be fair to check your facts, if you have heard a rumor about a korean player sacked by Italy, why not bothering to spend 20 seconds in google or wikipedia before making false allegations?
So while Italy is far from perfect, and is not better, (nor worse IMHO), than many other teams, I take exception to people making false allegations, since it is very easy to check your facts over the net.
The Italy-Germany game has probably been the most dive free of the whole world cup, and there were also very few fouls, making it a very good example of fair-play. Again I find citing non-existing dives as a reason for disliking Italy quite irritating.
Essentially all the fans find unpleasant to see their Country/Club criticized, so if you intend to make accusations I am ok with it providing that you at least take a minute to check that they are true.

This is a different issue, there has been controversy on that penalty, someone sees it as a dive, someone else sees Neill's left hand going up and intercepting Grosso's leg, but I agree it is a fact that has (rightly/or wrongly) led someone to think that Grosso dived, FIFA certainly did not see it as a referee's mistake since Medina has been given the quarterfinal between Brasil and France.
The "dives" on Italy-Germany are OTOH pure fantasy, no episode showing anything that could be interpreted as a dive by any stretch of immagination.
