As with the penalty awarded to Grosso against Australia, this is the kind of borderline case that can go either way, again a poor challange and as I see it you can't really bleme Malouda for going down after the contact.
To me a dive is a dive only when there is no contact, but I know someone sees things differently.
 
A final game had to be tight, both sides wanted it, and yes they deserved it, a good game from France, yes that's right, they were even better.

Italy deserved this victory all the way, congrats for the italians, for myself too 😀 i'm a fan sicne 1994's missed penalty!
 
Francesco, given Zidane's Algerian family background I think it would be _very_ easy to make a racist remark - I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Wasn't the first time Zidane used his head as a weapon. I recall a foot stomping incident against a Saudi player and another headbutt a couple of years back. What a way to end a career.

Difficult Francesco? Unfortunately not impossible. Being as "white" as someone doesn't mean squat.... look up the meaning of racist.

Anyway, regardless of the content of Materazzi's comments, whatever he baited Zidane with worked and made Zidane look like Cantona. Sad end to a game, to a final and to a career no matter how you look at it.

That's right.

Zidane has played mean many times, i've seen him not only in the international occasions, but also when he was playing with Juve.

So it's not Materrazi's fault, or at least it wasn't just him, and whatever he has told him, this doesn't give Zidane the right to do that, this is not a good place to hit, it could have been dangerous too.

For the FRENCH, your team deserved to play a final, did greta in this game. Hard luck.

And Zidane c'est honteux!!!

You are right, I forgot Zidane's half African descent.

Still whatever Materazzi told him I can't believe an experienced champion like him losing his temper like a rookie.

And I can't believe that after Zidane red card it was Italy that played as if they had one player less int he pitch, there is no joy in winning this way.

What Zidane did, gives a good example to the supporters.
I always loved the fair playing and friendliness of the football, as well as the social manifestations of the supporter groups.

A long time ago (1999) I watched South Africa vs. Kenya in Amstelveen as part of the World Cup of Cricket being hosted in England.... I know that doesn't make much sense .... anyway just to make it a little more interesting the oval had a tree within the field of play! 🙂

Agreed, happy as I am about the result, besides the disgrace of Zidane, France should have won the game.

And the US entered the world today? 4 blocks in the Italian part of Hartford, CT were closed as the shop owners rented a Jumbotron to show the game. Government Center in Boston was packed with on lookers, surely mostly supporting Italy as the north end of Boston adjacent to that is an Italian neighborhood. I am interested to see the news tonight and tomorrow to see who else in the states was watching.
 
The game was not really satisfying for the azurris (including me), but in a few days, or few weeks, every thing will be forgotten esxcept

Sorry for Zidane, too. He was victim of his own lack of self control (not the first time btw.)

ITA-GER was by far the best game (thus the title not unmerited for Italy), and Cambiasso's 28-relay-goal in ARG-SCG was at least the goal of the decade.

I agree the tournament was otherwise quite deceiving, most games dominated by safety-minded tactics with more dirty tacklings than ever. The defenders (like Cannavaro) are the new stars and the former genius (Zidane) left the house by the small back door.
