Would anyone trade their X-Pro1 for the new XE-1?

A hypothetical question at this point, since we haven't had much user feedback regarding the X-E1, but assuming it's simply an X-Pro1 minus the hybrid viewfinder but otherwise with minor "improvements" throughout ie. the EVF, weight, price, is anyone thinking of trading their X-Pro1 in for one?

Or to put it another way, does anyone find themselves not using the OVF part of their hybrid viewfinder as much as they expected they would, and as a result find themselves wishing they had a better EVF?

As for me, I thought the hybrid viewfinder idea was brilliant at the time, but recently I've come to realise that in use the lack of any kind of focus confirmation has made me favour the EVF 90% of the time.

I imagined when I bought the camera that I would just switch between the two on the fly, but this has not been the case because I've rarely felt the need to go from an EVF to the OVF except in low light. Anyone else?

I know there are many die hard OVF fans out there, but I'm curious if there's anyone else on this side of the fence.

It's not exactly the scenario you ask about, but I find that I use the EVF of my X100 so much more than the OVF that I dropped my plan to buy an X-Pro1 and pre-ordered an X-E1.

Nope, I'm not intending to buy an X-E1 to replace my X-Pro1 but, if a new X-Pro2 comes out and is a much better camera then that might be on the cards. For now, I'm looking at getting a full frame DSLR as a second camera.

If this camera ends up having faster AF I may have to look into it. However, if both perform the same, then I would keep the X-Pro1 only.

I prefer the OVF. I like to see what's outside the framelines. I used to own an EVF only camera. I know EVFs keep getting better and better. But I see no reason to give up using an OVF.

I don't really use the OVF, but the size is an issue. I had to put the grip on the XPro1 to feel really comfortable with it. The XE1 is smaller, so I bet it's not as nice in the hand. My hands are large.

I actually held my first Xpro today ... I bumped into a street shooter who uses his with the 18mm lens with an accessory finder and uses hyperfocal instead of the AF.

Nice little camera I have to say ... I had my Widelux with me and amazingly he knew exactly what it was because he'd owned one! He said he was aware of the Xe1 and is 'thinking about it!'

Nope. I may ADD the X-E1, but trading away the X-Pro1 would be throwing away my ability to use an optical viewfinder.

Here's the thing: The X-Pro1 can be set up to be many kinds of cameras. And one of those is a camera like my Voigtlander R3a. I can set up the X-Pro1 with a manual focus lens, optical viewfinder with framelines to match the manual focus lens. Then I have the pleasure of seeing outside the framelines, and using zone focusing, to capture 'The Decisive Moment' on the streets. Of course, if I choose, I can set the camera up to be many other types as well, including a very modern auto-focus, multi-zone metered whatever. :)

Would I trade my XP1 for an XE1?? No. I am waiting for people to offload their XP1s for an XE1 so I can pick a second XP1 body cheap.

Cheers

The XE-1 would be more useful to the user of off-brand glass than the X-Pro 1 based solely on the fabulously upgraded EVF. I would, therefore, possibly trade the X-Pro 1 for the XE-1. I do not use the OVF for any reason currently.

No way...

I use the OVF 95% of the time. In fact I really don't use the EVF.

Now if the new EVF is really that much better, I might get an xe1 to use for manual shooting? I just bought an adapter and am having a lot of fun using some old Nikon lenses what were just paperweights a week ago :)

I use both depending on the situation. Macro, accurate framing situation and when I want to double check the exposure when the lighting is difficult.

I use ovf even with manual lenses when I am shooting zone focus style..

That's a good idea, Gary.

I'm changing my method of manual zone focus...that would make it work even better. That certainly works great with 3p lenses with distance marks on the barrels, and should be fine with fuji lenses with the AE button approximating focus.

Thanks for that
