Would you buy a simple digital camera?

Way back when I got my first digital camera, I had a strong need that it be able to emulate my Nikon FE as far as being able to use it in a manual mode.
My CoolPix 995 cost a pretty penny, but it could do all the things the FE could as far as shutter speed/aperture/ISO etc.
I was so pleased with the pictures SOOC that I can probably count on one hand the number of times I used it in manual mode.
I recently got myself a Sony A7iii. It is pretty simple to use when set on AUTO. And the pictures aren't too bad either.

Yeah ... I tried to do that. I bought an M 8.2, several years ago. Set the Menu Items to the simplest options, saved that. This means that I adjust the shutter speed and aperture as I would for any of my analogue M camera bodies. I then made sure that the screen on the back of the camera never illuminates unless I specifically push Menu or Settings.

That being done. This camera is usable as far as a digital camera goes; I still find more "keepers" from the images I still make with film (with the possible exception of color images, after I dial-back some of the saturation, etc., in PP so that I don't feel I'm making cartoon images).

Dpreview - a site where nobody is happy even with the most amazing technology. If anyone is happy, it's only until the next model is introduced. Okay, that's an exaggeration, but that attitude is definitely there. The one forum which I think is very nice is the Minolta forum - they even respect and discuss Minolta film cameras there.

I still use my almost 10 years old Leica X1 which even now makes good photos 🙂
