Would you buy a used M8 now?

I have an M6 and now an M8 as well (purchased here on RFF). I use them interchangeably along with my non-Leica cameras. In the long run, the M6 will most likely hold more of its value, but most cameras are not really good investments anyway. I cannot afford (won't spend that amount) on an M9, but wanted to see how the digital rangefinder concept works. So far, I am happy with my purchase even though prices will continue to fall. I think there will be a floor for prices at some point. Much of the M8 negativism just isn't real in my opinion and limited experience. It's an excellent camera and the results I've gotten so far are excellent as well. Bottom line is that you should buy what makes you happy and will enjoy using.

X2... Well said.

Well- I did buy a used Leica M8 and I am very happy with the purchase. Under 400 shots on it, looked like new in the box. Extra battery, half-case, and books with it for $2500 shipped. That was in January. When I pick up an M9, I plan on keeping the M8 for a second camera. Money is already set aside in a CD for an M9.

No. There are too many reliability and operational issues for me to buy a M8. The full frame M9 interests me much more.

The gentleman specializes in inserting these one-liners. This is the second one in this thread.

This gentleman's negative opinion is no less relevant than your overtly positive ones. I keep things concise to avoid the waffle that some posters are prone to.

#3... Concise as in unfounded? Just a trollish interjection doesn't make sense. If you had a problem with an M8.2, explain.

I have to agree with jaapv. I have no problem with negativity... but explain it a little more. The M8.2 is a pretty solid camera and any of its cons are apparent before buying it.

It is a simple comment that makes perfect sense given the thread title and is firmly based on my own personal experience of the M8.2.

The film Leica's R & M remain, in my opinion, exceptional tools with longevity and reliability fundamental to their appeal.

Kindly refrain from commenting on my motives and stick to the thread topic.

So a baseless opinion. You are welcome to it. And your attempt to turn it into a film vs digital argument is rather transparant.

Again you are speculating about my motives and missing my obvious point.

Apologies to the op, if you really want the m8 then go for it and all the best.

Edit: How can an opinion based on experience of a product be baseless?
