Picture send by a good friend of my over in Belgium.
He spotted this Wartime Leica.
Looks in great condition. Wandering what would happen if one would go out and take pictures in the US of certain places or events ;-)

I don't know how receptive folks would be with all the Nazi markings but those who know about Leica's would have a good laugh.

The camera is a Russian Fed which has been modified to look like a nasty wartime camera.

This is a Russian fake.

I recently sold a genuine 1941 vintage Leica IIIc Luftwaffe that I used several times before putting it on eBay..

Yea!!! I know.....collectors would cringe if they saw me abusing it by using if for what it is intended to do.....take photos...

Dear Colyn,

I once had some fun by walking into a one-hour lab in San Francisco with a Lufwaffen Eigentum grey-paint Leica (in grey ER case) around my neck and handing over a film for development. You could see the guy behind the counter thinking, "Does he know what he's got? How can I find out without alerting him, if he doesn't know?"

Then there was the friend of mine who only took one roll of film with him to photokina. But it was quite a big roll: it was in a Leica 250.

Cheers,

R.

Obvious fake. Come to think of it, I wouldn't be too comfortable walking around with a camera with prominent Nazi markings, fake or not.

I do LOVE the kitschyness (is that a word?) of those wacky FED/Zorki conversions though. Some of these things are really outrageous. If I stumble across one at the next camera fair, I might buy one.

On other side, people using NKVD cameras just could think about all that things NKVD did to people of USSR. They weren't better than Nazis at all.

So what I wanted to say? I don't justify Nazis in any case, though that Nazi-rant is only one side of medal. It's unbelievable that Luftwaffe cameras "are bad, mkey" and NKVD are just fine. Either don't use any cameras marked by despotic regimes or use both of them.

He appears to be dressed as an allied soldier of the period.
I believe soldiers often took trophies found on campaigns. I have a number of relatives who brought back such things from the second world war.

Surely that's the idea of behind him carrying such a camera?
I fail to see why it should cause such offense.

Nothing to the stir created by walking around with M6, Viso III 560 Telyt and shoulder stock.

This kit will get you arrested anywhere, except possibly Kabul...

The attached photo (found on the net somewhere, no clue anymore where exactly, sorry) shows how a German war photographer from a Propaganda Kompanie (propaganda unit) would carry his cameras while not using.

My Grandfather was a captured paratrooper during WWII and was imprisoned at Stalag 7. At the close of the war when it was was liberated he took a shaving kit and a couple of Leica cameras as 'souvenirs'. Unfortunately he sold the Leicas when he got back to Blighty and I inherited a Shaving kit (with the days of the week in German)🙄

My dad flew Lancasters(4 engined heavy bombers for my American cousins) over 'the Reich' during WW11 and photographed some targets with a 'liberated German airforce Leica'.He sold it for a 'few pounds' in 1947. Dear me...................
