I'd be happy to loan my stuff but fairly nervous about using some one else's stuff.
I don't mistreat my cameras but have had a couple of accidents--two winters ago, I slipped on the frozen lake I live at and needed to get the RF re-aligned on the camera I was carrying at the time. Not a huge deal with my gear but if it had been some one else's kit I'd have been much more upset.
As well, I have enough to struggle with GAS to not want to add to that by exposure to more cool cameras/lenses.😀

Yes, with certain qualifications, I would. I lend gear to friends here, and if I had a relationship with a RFF member, I would do it as well.
 
In german we have a saying: don't loan anything starting with the letter "f": fuellfeder (fountain pen), fotoapparat (camera), frau (wife), ... 🙂
 
I guess I would.

We've had several traveling camera projects which were basically about sending a camera to another RFFer and having them take pictures with them. I remember taking a FED to Uzbekistan where it was stolen, so I bought another one on the flea market and shot with it. The next guy on the list gave the new FED a CLA, and on it went. Of course those weren't M9s with Noctiluxes, but the idea is the same.

Maybe with some conditions like nothing over a certain price limit. Borrower needs to be a member with x amount of posts and or transactions. Will need to make the swap/lend agreement in a posting that is public, etc.

Not sure if that's possible or even a smart idea... but sometimes things are just worth discussing so ideas can be tossed around.

To be honest, I've been a member of many forums over the years, but I'd like to say that RFF members are some of the most open minded and free thinking {beside the one or two unavoidable wet blankets} forum community people I've come across.

I would loan stuff to my friends (or local forumites), but I don't have friends interested in photography or any really interesting gear.

I DO however have alot of fancy gear on load from a friend though. like a Hassy kit 😱. he's too kind...

Borrowing equipment may actually cure GAS for some... maybe. 🙄

And, in some instances may save someone the trouble/hassle of an expensive purchase that ends up not being a good fit.

Being in NYC I can just run over to one of the big stores and rent something; but, some people don't have that luxury.

I think RXMD raises a good point. M9's and Noctiluxes are prob not good candidates. And neither are collector pieces of course. If your worried about the very, very, occasional scuff which inevitably will happen, then it's best to limit something like this strictly to user equipment.... like user Mamiya 6, or a banged up 40 year old Leica, etc.
 
I have no problem loaning out my gear, but I've reduced my kit to a set where very little lies unused for long periods of time, so it would depend on the period and availability to get the stuff back on short notice.

I am not sure it's going to work for me like that - of course i would like to try better gear than what I owe. The value of that gear is more expensive for sure. I don't see why I should borrow something that is equal to my gear... I felt the good idea is to borrow/lend stuff, not necessarily swap.

Something like this may not be good/agreeable for all. Obviously, something like this would take a lot of trust from it's participants. And, the participants should be responsible and honorable. Once/if things got sloppy, the moderators could call all equipment to it's owners and shut it down at their discretion.

If the moderators ever entertained an idea like this, that section of RFF could actually be a hidden section from non members and be on an invitation only bases. Or interested parties will have to ask to be admitted to that page.

Again, not sure if this type of thing is feasible; prob not. But it would be cool. The forum would have to be made clear legally of any responsibility of the participants, yadda, yadda... may get a little complicated in that regard.

But in a perfect world huh...
 
This is a great idea. I can imagine it would be easier to arrange face to face, for example at one of the meet ups. I would be most comfortable doing it that way.
I don't really see a point in going to great lengths to matching up the value of gear. As long as you can establish a degree of trust. With high value items, you could set it up as a sale with a generous return policy.
 
I don't have anything anyone would want to try out. They have either already owned & sold it or they give it a bad rep like my Bessa's & Canon SLR's. 😀
Seriously, I remember when I first joined here members were sending Raid their 50mm lenses to do his lens test. Great bunch of folk here I would trust.
But I don't trust the mail system. The only item I would love to try out is a CV 75/2.5 Heliar on my Bessa R. Don't look like I'll ever own one, the price has jumped to over $400.00 now...Bummer!

That's what I was talking about (or at least tried) 🙂
 
I was the personal benefactor of such an arrangement a couple of years ago.

I purchased an M6, but had no M type lenses, and no adapter. Fellow RFF'er Will (aka Shadowfox), agreed to lend me a Voigtlander adapter until I could procure one. It was quite generous of him. It saved me from days of teeth-grinding, having a brand-new (to me) camera and no way to shoot it.
