Wow! The G2 has ignited a fire...

The G2 and M6 combo is very hard to beat. The 3 Zeiss lenses are second to none, and adding that to the M6, you've got the best of all worlds. I've got 2 G2s, added the M6 recently, and love the fact that I can fit it all into a Domke F-803 satchel. I'd go for it.

2 G2s! i had to check your gallery. and i realize why. the beautiful models deserve only the best cameras indeed.
and yeah i forgot about the bag. i have the F6 ballistic and i will certainly need a bigger bag for the G2/M6.
i will go back to the shop and give G2 another check. and decide. i am also considering a zeiss ikon but it is not available locally.

Thanks for the nice words and good luck with your decisions. The ZI is certainly tempting, but I can't imagine getting better results that can be had with the G and the M6. Keep us posted.

charles and G2 enthusiasts,
as of august 21, i am a G2 owner! the owner of the camera shop gave it at $1,300 inclusive of VAT and laid away for 6 months at 0% interest. the brand new kit includes a 28 mm biogon, 45 mm planar and TLA 200 flash. i am putting the 90 mm on hold. for headshots i intend to use my M6 with the tele-elmarit 90 mm. i also intend to post pictures similar to socke's but of more embarassing nature, perhaps, if i get that lucky.

in that camera shop, right beside the G2 was a canon 20D body on sale for a price lower than the G2 kit. i gave the canon 20D a long look; reaffirmed a decision i made sometime ago about digital: to wait a few more years until it catches up to film standards. for now, my sony 828 -- the epitome of digital versatility and its drawbacks -- should do. thanks, charles.

G2... Own one (21,28,35,45,90 and flash) likes it very much, marvelous lenses... but why did they do an autofocus system... I'm always embarrassed with the autofocus. I end up using my other "real" rangefinder... because with them I know where I'm focusing...

If I could adapt to the autofocus... G2 would be my favorite camera...but I don't

Hmmm, if you learn how to use the center bracket, trust the camera that it will focus exactly where you place the bracket, focusing is dead accurate. I've never had a focus issue with this camera, including with the oft-maligned 90/2.8 Sonnar.

I agree with Charles. The bracket and focus guidelines are actually no different than the standard rangefinder window. Just a different form of feedback. A "normal" rangefinder provides a more visual confirmation. But after a while, you get used to it 🙂

Stephan, they may have included AF for those of us who have failing eyesight. I'm going the opposite way and selling my R2 and lenses while enjoying my 'G' system more all the time. I can no longer reliably focus manually, but my 'G' gets it right when I do my part.
