f2.8 lens,..fixed,.....no viewfinder,.....2000USD.....

Apart from retired dentists who wants a camera like this?............

Me. I feel the M8 is flawed for the cash (filters, crop factor, etc), the M9 is too expensive, but I love Leicas. The panasonic stuff is not a real leica IMHO. This P&S style camera is deceptive. I prefer the 35mm lens length, I like that it has traditional dials, and has a simple menu... especially for a digital camera. Sure, it is expensive...but it is one of a kind....for now. I hope others follow.

One might be prepared to pay a premium for a solid German-made rangefinder, but a Point and shoot is a point & shoot,

What makes the X1 a P&S?

It has a manual aperture dial, a manual shutter speed dial, no video mode, a fixed lens, etc. These are not the attributes of a point and shoot.

The Ricoh GRD is a point and shoot, the X1 is too, they both share almost all the points you mentioned.

Where are the shutter speed and aperture dials on the GRD... in the menus? I'm sorry, but a point and shoot does not beg to be used in manual modes by having manual dials that aren't on the menus. The GRD is not like the X1 in this aspect.
