X Pan center ND filter

So do you use it? Color? B+W?

Many of my recient shots have been indoors 100 asa Arista premium B+W. Handholding is not a good option at 1/8 f4 w/filter 🙂

I can always swap to 400 but wanted to see how many folks use the filter for B+W

Mine didn't come with one, and I felt I could spend the money better elsewhere. I don't notice it on BW stuff, and except for some slide film on sunny days, I often don't notice it in colour either.

There are many pics in my flickr from the xpan, none have the filter used.

With the 30 I normally use it, with the 45 not (never had the filter for it, never missed it).

Always use it on the 45. It's a 1 stop filter and would be noticed on color and possibly on B&W depending on the subject and just how even you want the illumination. I personally like even exposures and want the option of burning the corners if I see it's needed but with the filter there's no much option.

I use one on the 45mm for B&W. Without it the darkening on the corners is noticeable but not excessive, however I got one with the camera so I use it. I'm not sure I would buy one separately though, I believe that they are quite expensive.

I will try some without it. I hate not having even exposure but I hate a slow lens even more 🙂

Nowadays people spend money and time on software that would darken the edges and the corners. Xpan will do it for you for free and it will look better than the artificial darkening. It looks natural, at least in b&w. I'm happy with that.

And I'm dedicated to Neopan 1600. And any other Neopan when there's enough light.
