X-T1 high performance mode lens dependent?

Hey

Does anyone know if the high performance mode is lens dependent when it comes to focus speed? I have the 27mm pancake and I wouldn't say that I can really tell any difference in focus speed (haven't tried in very low light though).

Is the phase detection completely disabled when high performance is off, or it is just that the processor runs a little slower?

Can't quite figure it out through the manual or google, other than "it's faster when enabled".

The reason I'm asking is because I'm off for a vacation tomorrow, and I might want to use less power rather than ultimate speed when out taking photos for a whole day, especially as I can't really tell any significant difference in speed. 🙂

To the best of my knowledge, high-performance mode saves energy by reducing the CPU speed. I do not believe phase detecttion mode is disabled, but it could (should?) be more sluggish.

The 27/2.8 is one of the quickest lenses since there is not much glass to move and the glass doesn't have to move very far.

Perhaps it would be better to say the benefit of high-performance mode with respect to focus speed is lens dependent. Perhaps that's what you meant. The 27/2.8 or the 18/2 should use less energy... which is a useful in your situation.


Any process that depends on CPU speed will be effected. So spilt-screen focusing, face detection, card storage speed, for example, would be slower.

The only time high-performance mode should be disabled is when battery life must be conserved.

Thanks for the reply, and yes, I did mean to say that the benefit with respect to focus speed is lens dependent. 🙂 Thanks for clarifying that a bit.

I might give it a try first day or so with high performance off and see if it is any hinderance, and also see how it affects battery life. I just recently purchased the camera so it's to early for me to say what I can expect from the battery with my "usual behavior". Write speeds etc is of much less importance to me, coming from the M9 I'm used to waiting. 🙂

I have found the Fujifilm battery life increases a bit after six or so recharge cycles.
