Xpan Scanning Epson 4490 vs 4990

Can anyone tell me if the Epson 4490 is sufficent for scanning xpans or should I buy the 4990.

Right off the bat, I think you should consider the Epson V700 instead, provided you can stretch to that price point. A colleague who owns the 4990 has had success using it for meduim-format and larger, but hasn't bothered using it for 35mm (of course, owning the same film scanner as mine, he hasn't had much need). Since (I think) the street price for the V700 isn't wildly higher than the 4990, the difference seems worth the "difference".
