XPanning in Yangon.

Took some time off work for a bit of R&R and visited the capital city of Myanmar, Yangon. For this trip, I brought over a couple of cameras, including the XPan. The Idea was to shoot mostly digital, with some film on the side. What ended up happening was me shooting film on the XPan for mostly the entire trip. Managed to shoot some digital at night as well when the light turned into night, but I was glad I had enough rolls of film for the 8 days I was there. These panoramic shots are the ones I'm most proud of.

A little bit about the trip: Stayed only in Yangon as I wanted to get to to know the city a little better and take my time shooting some street scenes. The Burmese people are very friendly, like the guidebooks all say and the city itself has so many old buildings lining up the streets. It was insanely hot tho.

oh mannnnnn, these are killer. Very cinematic. Wonderful color, composition, timing. Yangon has been about the top of my list for a while, every time I see beautiful shots like yours it only makes it worse haha.

Absolutely love these! Wow, this should sell a few Xpans! They are all so good, but the photo with the pigeons and the umbrellas is stunning.

What film and lens/lenses did you use? Looks like you used the center filter.

Thanks Huss! I love how images come out of this camera. I might actually get a second one for safekeeping 😀.

All shots were with the 45mm, no center filter. Most are taken at f/8 or higher and did quite a few scale focusing since most films were 400 speed and it was sunny the days I was there.

Film used were Portra 400, Fuji Xtra 400, Fuji Industrial 400, Agfa Vista 200, Fuji C200. No particular reasoning, just grabbed what was in the bag.

I have a second Xpan (actually TX-1 and TX-2) for that very reason! For safekeeping. There is nothing like these amazing Fuji cameras, and never will be again.

Because I wanted to do a SE asia trip and it didn't happen, I am very grateful of seeing this shots!

They are so fantastic and the format was greatly used, enoguh that I imagine the 35mm 3:2's as less substantial.

Good to travel through your work!

I do agree about the point you raise of just walking around and see life going on. That's the spirit of travel to me.

Some incredible shots here. You've used the format to great effect. I imagine when using it, you start to see scenes that would only work in panorama, like I did when I started shooting 6x6.

1, 5 and 29 are my favourites. Especially 29. Bloody great shot.

Planning to go to Japan next Autumn, which will be my first trip to the "far east", and I'll definitely have to follow it up with Myanmar or Vietnam.

I do agree about the point you raise of just walking around and see life going on. That's the spirit of travel to me.

Thanks! I really like to just stay in one place and shed off that novelty feeling you get being in a new place for the first couple of days. Sure, eight days could've gotten me to places in northern Burma like Bagan and Mandalay, but I dont regret staying in one place and exploring the boring nooks and crannies of Yangon.

Thanks Michael. Your photos were actually what drove me to concentrate more on film for this trip. Usually I just bring 4-5 rolls and shoot sparingly.
