xtol and HP5?

Hi 🙂

First time trying out HP5. I've had good results so far with trix and acros, and read good things on hp5, but didn't find much info on it with xtol. According to digitaltruth, xtol 1:1 with HP5 400 iso @ 20C starting point at 12 minutes. Well.... I don't like the results very much. I think, well.. overdeveloped? Majority of the frames came out with this washy, low contrast look, but some look right on. I don't think it's overexposure. Is xtol okay for hp5? The attached, one shows original scan, other is after some PS manipulation, but err.. maybe I did too much contrast.

Well, you can't really have low contrast if it's overdeveloped. The fact that the sky is quite grey in your straight scan would indicate that your development time is just fine. Youl could probably even add a bit more. XTOL will give you decent speed so perhaps that's why you don't have the blacks that you'be thrown in with PS. Though I'd think rating at 400 would be about right.

It looks like the scene itself was pretty low contrast.
