I've just mixed up a 5L batch of XTOL and intend to use it to develop some Tri-X pushed to 1600.

Anybody have any insight into using it at 1:2 or 1:3 dilutions? From what I've read, Kodak recommends no more than 1:1 dilution, but I'm finding all sorts of conflicting information from those using it at 1:2 and 1:3.

I've got about 120 rolls to develop......

I've developed Tri-X with Xtol 1+1 with very nice results so never needed to vary from that ratio.

I've used it 1:1, 1:3, and replenished. For consistency, especially pushed, either 1:1 or replenished seemed to work best for me. You can replenish Xtol for a very long time - I've used the same tank for more than two years with an occasional filtering.

For pushing, I do deviate from 1+1, but the other way: I used Xtol stock solution to great effect. I screened a selection of 400 films for pushing to 1600 with Xtol stock, and Tri-X came out the best! Smallest grain, best tones...
