Hi all,

A few months back I purchased a cosmetically very nice Yashica D on the big auction site for a small sum.

Upon receipt it seemed the only issues were a dirty focusing screen/mirror and a slightly out-of-spec shutter, so I sent it to one of my repair techs for a light CLA.

This morning I got a photo from said tech...

I sure would LOVE to know the story...

Happy Wednesday, everyone!

Could it be gold dust?

Be quick - have it sent back to you (the dust, not the camera) for sample testing.

I seem to be responding to my own post here. Mysterious...

Anyway, we are all fairly dying to know what the gold-like stuff is. Please don't keep us in suspense!

More to the point of the OP's original post, Yashica shutters are mechanical and repairs should be fairly easy. I've owned a few Ys, admittedly many decades past, and had one or two serviced as I was then in my teens and tended to use my gear quite heavily. The repairs were cheap and easy then. Likely more expensive now but any competent repair person should be able to adjust the speed on yours.

(This also applies to Rollei TLRs, but due to the German name and higher quality, the service costs are usually higher.)

I think that's (very old and dried out) weed aka marijuana - the shape of the seeds looks familiar.
I guess that's one place where you could put an emergency stash....

It sure is! I probably could’ve been more clear.

I’m really glad I had this serviced before I went through airport security next!

Hah! I just re-read the thread title and felt really dumb for a second... ah. Alas.

Also I think security should have let you go, if they even found it - I mean that stuff must be decades old. Using it would probably be as effective and enjoyable as smoking floor dust.

Good grief! I was trying to work out how a mouse had got a seed stash into a camera - I was waaaay off the mark! That really is an emergency stash becuase I can't imagine you'd get much in there.
